how much levy and wetlands restoration would the "lost in Iraq" 8 billion
buy? As the dollar amounts requested by LA and NO for levy and wetlands restoration and denied by feds are revealed, it is important to weigh how those dollars were actually allocated and spent....or lost as it turns out. how much NO and LA coastal restoration and protection could have been done for the 8 billion "missing" in IRAQ? how many lives could have been saved with the "tax relief" handed out to the wealthy?

Intentional decisions and grievous errors in judgment created the vulnerability and destruction of the Louisiana coast. That is where the accountability lies (IMHO). The Louisiana coast is a victim of our corrupt government policies. Pretending otherwise is like blaming gravity for death by guillotine. Sure gravity makes the blade fall, but first someone's head has to be put in the way of the blade. Sure the hurricane swept in on the LA coast, but first choices were made to assure that the storm would do predictable damage. As noted in the scenario printed in another DU post.

1. I heard yesterday that $14 bill. must be spent to reclaim
the marshland that protects the shores before any other rebuilding takes place or all of it will be lost in the next storm!

2. The 250 million originally slated for restoration of the Levees
went into the Iraqi reconstruction fund. So not only did they take the money but managed to "lose" it, plus a whole lot more.

3. Leadership is about decision making
However you slice it, from the short term to the long term, decisions made by this administration have been grievously wrong.... wrong at the cost of lives, wrong at the cost of jobs, wrong at the cost of respect and credibility to the United States of America.

GW stands for grievously wrong. Grievously Wrong Bush gets failing marks for his decionmaking again and again, always at the expense of someone far removed from him...
