RawStory: Jefferson Parish Pres.: "They're keeping the body counts down...
because they don't want to horrify the nation."

Full Quote:

Jefferson Parish President: 'I'm not surprised at what the feds say, they're covering their butts. They're keeping the body counts down because they don't want to horrify the nation. It's worse than Iraq, worse than 9-11. They just don't want to know how many were murdered by bureaucracy.' Developing hard....

The Republicans may be afraid to admit that Clinton's people and policies were the best after all.

Hillary Clinton is planning to file legislation to move FEMA out from under Homeland Security and to make the head of FEMA a cabinet level position, as it was under Clinton.

23. Bush is on TV at leturn with Roberts pretending nothing happened
will the media let him get away with it?

Write to your Congressperson and the media demanding Arrest and trial, it is not going to get any better.

Does anyone have the link for the Geraldo Rivera, Sam Shepard righteous meltdown. I downloaded it and watched it last night and to have Fox new media so outraged crying and disgusted throwing up their hands, pleading that these people be allowed to go free, talking about the CHECKPOINTS at the end of the bridge which was the only way for the people locked in the dome to get out and the ones who were not allowed in were turned back at the checkpoints (just like Iraq) and couldn't get to food and water and they were outraged.

I would like to post the link for other people on AOL and Yahoo Messageboards but downloaded it from DU thread and don't remember which one. Protect Brossard and others, demand answers from the media don't just talk about it here and put up articles and links to truth sites on neutral messageboards for people who don't know about the politial truth sites.

Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 12:19 AM by Nothing Without Hope
The area affected was HUGE, most of at least 3 states, and many towns were partly or completely demolished. Then there were the monstrous delays and blocks of aid to the survivors. The death toll is still rising because people are still dying of neglect.

Many bodies will not be found because of the totality of the destruction and the floods. Also because people are taking it into their own hands to bury their neighbors and friends because the government would let them rot in the streets for who knows how much longer. For example:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4622712

And yes, of course the Feds will lie about the death toll. They do for Iraq too.

For me, another very important question, even harder to ansewer but we have to try:
How many deaths took place BECAUSE OF THE DELAYS AND BLOCKS OF AID?

17. Barbour and Mississippi - I have relatives who survived still in Gulfport
and they know men who came in from NC right after the storm to help with search and rescue.

These were guys who had some law enforcement background and training ...

anyway those guys said after working to rescue people in the areas of Gulfport between the coast and the railroad tracks

they estimate Gulfport alone will have 800 - 1000 dead, minimum.

Haley Barbour is covering up - how can we focus on Mississippi and get the truth out with Barbour and Lott whitewashing everything?

43. Need to get local reports and compile them. No way people will long
believe that the entire state only had 100-200 deaths. In the end, they are going to be showing what callous, craven liars they are, because the truth is going to get out no matter how hard they try to lie and bury it.

11. Body counts are a grim reality but necessary. If they are covered like
how the flag draped coufins are when brought from Iraq, or the unreleased Abu Gharib photos, people lose a sense of real cost, in lives. That is how people become desensitized and begin to turn a blind eye and the issue gets lost.

the only way this admin. and the Rethug party as a whole keeps their numbers up is by lying, distorting, spinning, lying, manipulating, lying, cheating, stealing, lying, hiding, extorting, etc., etc., etc....oh, did I mention lying?

The truth about this has to come out, and with people like Brousard, Blanco, Naglin, Landrieu, Witt, etc. it might just have a chance.

the "bureaucracy" that killed these people, it was the Bush and his top people giving orders that were carried out. And it was deliberate delay at the minimum.

Watch this smoking gun video from the UK. It's an interview of a top NorthCom military spokesman, who tells that yes, they were following the hurricane and were ready with millions of meals, search-and-rescue helicopters, everything.
http://news.globalfreepress.com/movs/katrina/BBC_Katrina.mpg
But -and you'll have to watch for this sentence late in the video clip - they could not go in without Bush's permission.

Which, we know, they did not get.

Bush knew what was going on, he was warned, he had the people ready to help, and he delayed for days and days before allowing them to help. Even now, it's not clear to me that there is anywhere near the level of help that could be given. I also suspect that it is likely to be given predominantly to white people of means rather than the poor black victims. But how could they complain? To get an idea of how it is in these poor communities now, read this:

45. We've been predicting a disaster for a major blue city for months -
but we all thought it would be a terror attack. Bushco thought this would be even better, because they couldn't be blamed for the weather.

It is highly unlikely that all these people will be available for voting in '06. And even if they are, this gives Bushco cover for a deeper shift to red "they were grateful to the President for helping them after the hurricane".

The administration will will disenfranchise thousands, and steal thousands more votes to prevent LA from going blue.

they will have a difficult time hiding the numbers. Not to say that they wont try, we all know the tactics of this misadministration. But people will want to know, and there are enough dems on the ground including nagin, landreau, blanco and dewitt that it might be pretty hard to hide them for long.

27. After 9/11 photos and descriptions of missing
people were all over NY.

The Media should do this, since the affected areas are so large. They should get pictures wherever possible and keep showing them ~

A website also should be set up for family members and friends to post descriptions and photos whenever possible ~

Even though many in the affected areas have lost everything, including photos, they have relatives most likely in other states with pictures etc.

If this is done and word gets out so that families and friends have a plact to list their missing loved ones, it will make it much harder for them to hide the dead.

They've hidden the dead in Iraq and Afghanistan, and must not be allowed to do it again. Some day, a body count needs to be done in those countries also ~ the results of these policies are simply not known to most Americans. Knowing the truth should help stop this madness in the future ~

40. Shame game: calling all crackers: Dear Mr. President:
that means YOU white people: We're going to have to exorcise this demon sooner or later and I DARE you to crank this w/ the freepers to see just how far they will let you go.

Dear Mr. President:

Dear me, it is terrible what has happened in New Orleans. I've only visited there once. It was a little crowded and scary for my taste and I was afraid. But its still an American city and so sir, I hope you can find the money to take care of those people. I know that the Iraqi War (God bless our soldiers) is costing a lot of money. I'd have to bet that the people of New Orleans can't appreciate that right now.

I know that there is a tax cut coming up for review for Congress, Sir, and I'd like to ask you to stay with that for as you know, little businesses like mine, depend on that kind of attention from the government.

God Bless America, Mr. President.

Sincerely, and in faith,
white cracker from Atlanta

38. I think this will have to be a time that the internet does
what they hate the most: Keep the truth alive. We all know they will lie on the numbers. The press is going back their usual stance of allowing this administration to get away with things. And the administration is working on doing a Rove job on the Governor and NO Mayor. So it must be up to us to keep the facts alive. Keep people informed of how many bodies are really piling up on Bush's door. The nation needs it now more than ever.

39. 20,000
WALK FM Long Island this morning quoted an "anonymous" government official as putting the dead at an estimated 20,000. They didn't say if that was just for NO or in total of all states for Katrina.

I know anonymous sources are taken with a grain of salt, but a figure in the thousands is far more credible than the 59 dead they currently quoting.
