How did we get rid of Nixon?
Do you remember - a group of Republicans marched up to the WH and told him it was time to resign.,,,now true he was probably about to get impeached and removed and we don't have that situation here - although we should be at that point

So here is what I think we are pressuring the wrong party. We need to pressure the repunks to have the following people resign

Freak in chief
Cheney
Rumsfeld
Chertauf
Brown

feel free to add to this list

I say we tell anyone we know who voted for this freak - and now realizes that he is a fraud to contact their Representatives and Senators and demand their resignation. We need to do it to. We need to write letters to the editor, letters to MSM demanding these pukes resignation

Impeachment isn't going to work - this probably won't work either but we need to know that this is the END of the repunk party if they don't do something now - make these people accountable

5. I think its just a good idea to start seeding the word resignation
accountability and resignation - not that it will work but I think the idea should be kept in the public's mind - this is so outrageous and I'm just desparate to do something....

24. Agreed, we need to wipe the slate clean,
change a few things, and start anew.

I'm not sure I could settle for much less.

4. trouble with that is that the Republicans of 1974
had some integrity and actually cared about this country. I'm not sure this is the case now.

8. I think there is a good number of them who do have integrity,
And also care for nothing but politics. Those have to be having a fire under them like Walter Jones, Chuck Hagel, Ron Paul, Jim Leech, Butch Otter, Ron Kind, Sam Farr etc.

13. You can bet that we can do that....
It is not, nor is it ever too late. Even if they stonewall we've already taken down a number of their crooks and any stonewalling of the evidence will make it more obvious they must be impeached and resign.

7. Yes, we must do it. Good idea.
Include Condaleeza Rice, Karl Rove, and everyone in his cabinet including Andrew Card and Michael Brown.

All of them need to resign- Spread the letters everywhere, good TOOL:

http://www.conservativeusa.org/mega-cong.htm
http://www.whitehouse.gov

And especially Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz all RESIGN. The Pentagon man already resigned, so its time for them to resign.

And impeachment WILL work, if we circulate petitions everywhere and hold the repukes to the fire I'd guarantee that. But the resignations need to START RIGHT NOW

11. Democratic Control Of The House
Plain and simple.

This is the body that can do the investigating and was in the forefront of the Nixon impeachement. It was during this time I got familiar with a young John Conyers, Charlie Rangel, Paul Sarbanes...and helmet-head Lott. We had leaders in the House like Peter Rodino and Senators like Sam Ervin who wouldn't take crap from the Repugnicans and made sure the investigations went on.

It also didn't hurt there were ongoing criminal prosecutions while Watergate began to build. By the time the House impeachment committee voted on articles, several of Nixon's henchmen had already been convicted and Nixon himself was an unidicted co-conspirator.

Plus add to that Nixon was under investigation by the IRS (several of the impeachment charges were for tax evasion) and the man had alienated a lot of his "friends" along the way. While Nixon couldn't wash his hands of a Colson or Erlichmann or Haldermann or Dean fast enough to save his ass, meeester boosh sticks with his boys hell or high water. He's yet to force a resignation except for Paul O'Neill...who wouldn't play ball with his scams.

It's starting to get too late to play impeachment games with this regime. Even if the Democrats sweep into massive majorities next year, an investigation couldn't really get going until early 2007 and be assured the regime would stonewall any information request thrown at it...a lot would end up in court and it would be at 2008 before most of the legal debris would be cleared.

The goal here is to paint the Repugnican party on the whole as being corrupt. The list of messes this regime has given the Democrats a golden opportunity to win a lot of seats next year. Now are we focused enough to make it happen??

15. Unless of course they just rig the elections
my point is I don't think we can wait until January 2007 or January 2009. The only power we have right now and the only hope we have to get these freaks out before 09 is to call for their resignation. I just think that when we contact our Representatives and Senators and we should all be doing this we should be demanding their resignations and a massive investigation. And not some shit ass cover up investigation like the 9-11 commission.

12. Congress went after VP Spiro Agnew first. With him out of the
way they were able to concentrate on Nixon.

The only way we are going to get rid of BushCo and his PNAC buddies I think is to charge them with criminality and treason, which they have abundant evidence for. Now they need to use it. Since the Supreme Court is tipped in our direction temporarily, shouldn't we get them to work on this somehow? They got us into this, it's their duty to rectify the mistake they made.

14. I just posted a comment like this on dailykos
I said that any corporation would fire a CEO after a performance like this, if the Republican party is to remain, they will have to act soon.
The longer this administration remains in power, the less likely that
the Republican party will remain as a national polictical party. For
those who have financially invested in the fortune of the Republican party, this is audit time, the American people will not turn their backs
on fellow citizens dying in the streets. Half of America is already on
the way to help the victims and they will report back to every local
community in the country. They will not spin this. The game is up.

20. Nixon got rid of Nixon. He was so full of himself, he really bought his PR
and his WH taping system did the rest. Now, we don't have tapes on Bush, but we don't need any. The evidence keeps piling up, literally in body bags and detached body parts as well as hunger, disease, suffering, and poverty. He's a four-in-one horseman of the apocalypse, the role he was born and molded for. The US should add another amendment to the Constitution: No one with the surname Bush who descends from that family, or who is related to it, should serve in any governmental capacity whatsoever throughout the land. Two Bushes are two too many.

I sort of keep a running tally comparing the pace of Nixon's downfall with that of our illustrious leader, and right now we're sort of in early 1973, I think, before the Watergate hearings started but after Nixon suffered a falloff in popularity following his landslide victory the previous November. Shit has started to hit the fan; the press is starting to pound away after having been asleep at the wheel for much of his administration's dirty tricks and crimes. Look for relentless duplicative covers on Time, Newsweek, and US News to grind away at the administration's bones week after week after week.

Most of all, it's important to keep up the pressure on all politicians and the MSM. Don't give up, no matter how bad the reversals seem. The powerful always need to buffalo people to keep them in submission; don't fall for it because they're only as powerful as you allow them to be. And all this defeatist talk on DU is a pile of nonsense. Bush has never been weaker, and there's thread after thread claiming he's never been stronger, that Diebold is destiny? Bullshit! Take what's yours, and ours, back. Hold government officials' feet to the fire, and raise hell.

I guess every generation or so, people need to relearn the old cliche about eternal vigilance being the price of liberty. How do you think it became an old cliche? There's some truth to it, and that truth is the difference between freedom and tyranny; so yeah, I think sleeping with one eye on all politicians is worth it. I also think talking politics and being impolite in social conversation is okay when this country's future is at stake. George Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Adams, and Franklin were very rude to King George. They talked truth to power and told him to take his corrupt colonial governors and go screw himself. Sounds good to me. If friends are really friends, talk politics and get them fired up.

That's how we got rid of Nixon, and I think it will work with this putz too.

22. Exactly. This is what has to happen.
Well before the election, Carl Bernstein explained that the Democrats could not get rid of Bush*. This effort has to come from within his own party, exactly like the Republicans got rid of Nixon and the Democrats ousted Johnson, when they had become too much of a liability. But even though he's come under heavy criticism from members of his own party, like McCain, Hagel and Lugar, the majority are not only still backing Bush*, but still spinning for him. If Colin Powell could be persuaded to repeat the lies, I have little hope for anyone else...:-(
