Do these people know anything about who Gene Roddenberry was?
Roddenberry himself was a flaming liberal, anti-religion, anti-corporatism, anti-racism humanist. He's been quoted as saying that Star Trek was his vision of the 'ultimate liberal utopia.' Why do rightwingers frequent Star Trek boards? The entire philosophy of Star Trek goes against everything they believe in!

as hell too. Has a lot of usenet postings to back that up.

However, Jerry Doyle, who played Garribaldi on the show is a well known right wing talk show host now.

Also, there's a story that apparently Straczynski needed to take a while to recover from hearing about that Karl Rove and other Bushies were avid fans of Babylon V and it was one of their favorite shows. You'd think they would note that it depicts a very close resemblance of what we have now as the big flawed Earth government on that show. Perhaps President Clark gave them ideas on how to "do bidniss!"...

18. We Have a Couple of RW-nuts in our ST Club

Our Star Trek club, the USS Chesapeake (http://www.usschesapeake.org/) has a couple of right wingnuts in it. Fortunately, they tend to get shouted down by the rest of us, who are flaming liberals.

I've met some RWers in Trek fandom. However, most of the RWers tend to be Babylon 5 and (more recently) BSG fans. I hate to say it, but we even have some RWers in Farscape fandom. :(

Ironically, if the people of Ohio had known then what they know now, Captain Janeway would be the First Lady of Ohio. Kate Mulgrew is married to the guy who ran against Gov. Shaft. Of course, the repugs tried to smear all of her husband's supporters as a bunch of Trek geeks. I didn't get to ask her at the big convention that I went to last month if her husband felt that he was vindicated. I got the feeling that she and her husband want to put that all behind them and focus on the future.

Jerry Doyle is a radio talk-show host? I hope they have a seven-second delay on him! We have a running joke about how quickly Doyle will drop the F-Bomb after he comes on stage. I think the shortest time was about 30 seconds.
