Is "DU" unprepaired for major Disaster Threats? Weather or Terrorist/

The traffic on DU is so amazing that "Search Functions" need to be curtailed when there's a major breaking news/disaster event out there.

Many threads that are important for "verification of disinformation" are lost because we go to "Level 3" and can't find the posts.

Many folks posting really important info...for follow up by our Mainstream Media who aren't technically able to figure a way to "save" posts or news, don't have a way of figuring out how to "Save to File" the info they see posted here.

The "My Posts Function" which allows those who have something that's "news worthy, news notable, editorial, factual or whatever" can no longer see the post/replies of those who though their comment, article, story, or other was interesting enough to reply to. Because the function is gone.

DU Researchers: Those who comple evidence from worthy news sites, posters comments and links and speculation..are CUT OFF form valuable links because "Death Com-3" means we can't get access to the SEARCH and ARCHIVES we need.

I could go on ...but I would hope that our really Great Hero's: "Democratic Underground Administrators and the many years of Volunteer Mods" could find a way to tell all of us here...what it would cost to get a Server to HANDLE the DU CRISIS MODE TRAFFIC!

If you could tell us DU'ers what it would take in Dollars to still keep all our "Functions" usable...I think you could get the money.

What do you DU Admins think about this? :shrug:

And HOW MUCH COULD WE HERE ANTE UP? Would we do it? Until we know what it costs ...it's an open question.

next to the profile icon if we donate to buy more capacity. Its worth a poll to see how many would donate. The way things are going, I think there will be many busy days and lost posts.
