Is Maria Shriver anorexic?

Anorexia is a horrible disease. Many times it stares everyone in the face yet no one dares recognize it.

I just saw Maria in TV. She looks extremely thin.

Could Arnold's behavior towards women be taking its toll on his wife?

I hope someone is looking out for her.

He obviously has some big issues when it comes to women.

It seems to me she may be a classic case of anorexia, trying to meet an unreachable goal of physical beauty.

I just don't know if maybe she has some other illness which causes her weight to be so low.

Shriver interviewed Karen Pomer for an hourlong 1996 "Dateline NBC" program about her kidnapping at gunpoint - a six-hour horror during which she was raped. Shriver spent close to three days with Pomer, then a documentary filmmaker and now a sexual-assault activist, who has come out against Arnold Schwarzeneger in the California race.

Pomer claims that, after a lengthy on-camera interview and in front of several witnesses, Shriver turned to her and "matter-of-factly" said:

"Karen, I can't believe your boyfriend stayed with you. My husband wouldn't go near me again. He would leave me, because I would be damaged goods."

But a woman who accompanied Pomer to the Santa Monica interview also remembers Shriver's statement. (The woman asked for anonymity.)

5. You know, I've thought the same about her for years.

When she doesn't have *just* the right lighting and camera angles the extreme angles in her face are really scary and have me worried for the woman. She wasn't this thin when she married him.

I think she mentioned in an interview once that Arnold was always bugging her about her "diet" (not as in "weight loss diet" but as in the foods she ate) ...no mention of him bothering her about her weight, per se, but still - it makes you wonder.

I know she is open to criticism for the choices she made, given they have jumped into the political arena, but the issue of anorexia and the mental abuse of women is a serious matter.

Some people are not able to swallow their food properly because they have trouble with their esophagus. This makes it very difficult for them to eat and some stop eating.

I saw footage of her over the weekend wearing a sleeveless blouse and her arms looked ok. (her body wasn't doing a "Calista") but her face is SO gaunt that it really is worrisome.

And yes, it *is* concern - this is not the first time I (and others) have noticed how thin Maria is.

I have a family member who is struggling through a very abusive situation and may be borderline anorexic.

I am sad to see some here are bashing her for a terrible disease, if in fact she suffers from this condition. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the facts.

This is a problem that no one likes to speak about until its too late.

If this thread has turned into a Maria pile on, I would rather the mod's just delete it.

Reminds me of how Karen Carpenter looked. Gaunt, sickly...It wasnt that long ago she was a fairly attractive woman (lighting?) But her face being that skinny makes her look OLD and not attractive at all.

When some butthead man that thinks his wife isnt skinny enough, controls everything she eats and does, and allows her to get like this...then I have no sympathy for that woman. Dont they have kids? That isnt a good example for them.

She has probably seen him "behaving badly" for years, lets it get to her, and she does this crap to herself to keep from losing him.

Im just speculating like everyone else, but I say she is an Auhnold junkie of the worst kind.

If it's true that the camera adds weight, I can't imagine what she must look like in person. My sister almost died of anorexia, so believe me when I say that I don't mean this as a joke--the angles in her face look like they could hurt someone.
