13. Depraved indifference to human life.
Negligent homicide.

He killed them. We're lucky. He killed lots more Iraqis.

Please don't wash his hands for him because he wasn't actually present. It was his failure to be present that killed.

14. I believe anyone who died as a result of the levee breaking
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 10:20 PM by never_get_over_it
is his responsibility and anyone who died after surviving the hurricane is his responsibility - we'll probably never know how many

but lets not forget

3,000 on 9/11 - he was warned and warned and warned and did nothing
2,000 - which is way higher but we'll never know that true number either
100,000+ - Iraqis

I'm beginning to believe the ONLY thing he has ever been successful at is death and destruction - pResident Death!

8. Bush didn't kill them.
Katrina did that. But I think his policies since his first term definitely added to the suffering. There's plenty of blame to go around. We can't just put all the onus on the GOP. Many factors are at fault here.
I think part of the problem is that Bush does himself no favors by seeming to be so out of touch with the common people. He just doesn't have that ability to assimilate with we peons here below.

15. no, the majority likely died *after* the hurricane
within the same timeframe that *I* used to respond to foreign emergencies of equal or worse proportions for the USAF. That's what I did for a living. There was no excuse for this and those who acted locally are far less culpable than those who failed to act or blocked action by others.

The problem isn't his "out of touch with the common people" skills as he uses that all the time, it ain't a PR or "perception" problem it is the failure to render timely material aid as we have done over and over again. the "gop"? Who is blaming the GOP specifically?

No, the US government the office of the President and the men he appointed to these positions who were fulsomely praised for failing to do their jobs. THAT'S who I blame. And I know of what I speak.

Enjoy defending your indefensible position, I'll let the other vets, emts and medical workers who know better continue this, I need a break.

Mr. W_D

17. Agreed
This is a terrible thing to say, but part of me really thinks that since there were no big money friends of the Bush Dynasty hurt by Katrina, that he really doesn't care what's going on down there.

I try so hard to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I don't think Bush would deliberately let people die... but, like you said, he's completely out of touch with average folks like us. So that there's a lot of our types suffering is in Bush's mind like plague in a gnat swarm---largely inconsequential.

Karl Rove... man, he's smart, damn smart, but totally evil. Perhaps he's not evil, but I'd like to see him show some humility or sympathy just once.

9. He's a terrible president, the worst we ever had, but
he didn't kill them. Just did an unbelievably pathetic job during the disaster, as well as hamstringing the state with his FEMA cuts and La. National Guard off-shoring prior to the disaster.

18. Bush certainly did not kill them... he was part of mass negligence
after the hurricane... but that may have led to a few deaths... I can give you no number as I have no true idea... but I would estimate that 99% of the deaths were unavoidable (excepting evacuation and not cutting levee funding in the first place...)

19. If our Democrats running for office in 2006 don't use
this as their main campaign issue to point out the ineptitude and elitism of the Republicans they are running against, then I give up.

This is a gift from the gods. It reveals with no uncertainity that what the Republicans stand for is filling their pockets with the taxpayer's money while they do nothing about governing. Here is the proof that anyone who votes Republican is voting against their own interests and you can't point it out enough times.

20. if Dems use Katrina
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 03:19 PM by neoteric lefty
as a political "gift from the Gods" then it will bite them in the ass, I believe. Dems have plenty of ammo just sitting there (Iraq, Environmental Protection, Iraq, Homeland Security, Iraq, election reform, Iraq, economic activity, Iraq). If we play Katrina, Katrina, Katrina 24/7 in 2006, then the GOP can just say, "look they are politicizing a natural disaster". Dems will be on the defensive telling the public how it is not. We need to find out where govt failed us (federal, state and local), fix the problems, plan for the future and hold people accountable for their action or inaction.
