Anne Rice finally weighs in....
I've been waiting to see what she has to say about all this....

http://jam.canoe.ca/Books/2005/09/04/1202272-ap.html

"Why did America ask a city cherished by millions and excoriated by some, but ignored by no one, to fight for its own life for so long? That's my question," Rice wrote in a New York Times op-ed piece published Sunday.

<snip>

When asked why so many stayed:

"They didn't have any place to go," she wrote. "They are the poor, black and white, who dwell in any city in great numbers; and they did what they felt they could do - they huddled together in the strongest houses they could find. There was no way to up and leave and check into the nearest Ramada Inn."

<snip>

"But to my country I want to say this: During this crisis you failed us. You looked down on us; you dismissed our victims; you dismissed us. You want our Jazz Fest, you want our Mardi Gras, you want our cooking and our music," she continued. "Then when you saw us in real trouble, when you saw a tiny minority preying on the weak among us, you called us 'Sin City,' and turned your backs."

I hope she digs into her wallet too.

1. She is a very pretty woman
She sure beats that piece of shit Condi. She is one classy LADY. Condi wouldn't be good enough to shine Anne's shoes.

2. Ann Rice is a lovely person
...her husband Stan Rice was my poetry professor one semester at San Francisco State during the period when their 4-year-old daughter was dying of leukemia. It was all so very sad. Later I audited a literature class on Valery, Yeats, and Rilke that Ann audited, and she was a quiet, witty contribution to the class. I loved the fact that she became such as successful writer. She came from New Orleans and personified the spirit of that city, which I and many others who knew it as tourists are already missing deeply.

BTW, there are many people who won't abandon their pets. Can someone help them by allowing them to take their pets with them?

3. She's not pulling any punches.
Yes we failed New Orleans. We didn't fight hard enough against the bush junta.
