O'Reilly mouthing new meme: "See? Fed bureaucracy can't respond"
This was predictable, although the hypocracy is breathtaking:
Break the system, starve it for funds, run it with incompetent sycophants, then say
it's just another example of evil federal government incapabililty.

3. I think it's proof of the exact opposite
When you gut programs, revamp departments, staff them with unqualified persons, privatize them, etc. - government doesn't work.

People who HATE the government cannot RUN the government.

5. that's the point
They're going to leave out the "gutting" part, and claim that the federal government is by its nature incapable of doing anything worthwhile. This has been their very effective political mantra since Goldwater.

The only response is that any institution will succeed or fail based on the dedication and competence of its leaders. Anyone who goes into government hating government is duty bound to fuck up, since that's the goal.

7. So obvious and all part of the plan. They haven't even been secretive
about it ever since Reagan. Perhaps they though Katrina fit the bathtub metaphor, at any rate they are going for the kill now. Nominated, because more people need reminding.

So when people say "the government failed" correct them:

The bush administration failed the people, as it was intended to do.

Republicans campaign on the message that government doesn't work, and when elected, make it true.

14. Homeland Security can't respond.
Be specific so that everyone knows what part of the federal bureaucracy did not and/or could not respond. It was George Bush's Homeland Security.

16. Hello Bill, anybody home in that thick skull of yours???
The federal government USED TO be able to respond just fine, before your PNAC friends started destroying it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember what Grover Norquist said about shrinking the government down to where it's small enough to drown in a bathtub? Well this is the logical outcome. I betcha anything every one of you PNAC SOB's has set out to DELIBERATELY SABOTAGE the government to make people hate it and resent it and to MAKE it a failure.

I call that treason. In a time of war (we are still at war, remember), that's a hanging offense.
