Did the NO police kill 5 Department of Defense workers?
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0%2C5744%2C16494579%5E12377%2C00.html

At least five people shot dead by police as they walked across a New Orleans bridge yesterday were contractors working for the US Defence department, according to a report by The Associated Press.

A spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers said the victims were contractors on their way to repair a canal, the new agency said, quoting a defence Department spokesman.

The contractors crossing the bridge to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain, in an operation to fix the 17th Street Canal, according to the spokesman.

The shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, across a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain to the Mississippi River.

Early on Sunday, Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley of New Orleans said police shot at eight people, killing five or six.

No other details were immediately available.

I found this through a maze of websurfing. Any one else hear about this???

2. Yes
The details kept changing through the course of the day yesterday. Last word was that gunmen shooting at contractors were killed by the police. Who knows if that'll be the final story.

3. While the Pentagon ran the show
they caused tensions to rise incredibly high. They ran the operation as if this was Iraq and New Orleans was Baghdad. Because they withheld food and water, people started to go crazy and everyone became a threat. I am not surprised at all if this happened.

Notice how much things are calming down once the National Guard came in and took charge. The contrast is beyond striking.

4. Another story which needs verification
The story being reported on the radio was that the police were protecting contractors and that the ones shot were an armed gang.

So either there were two shooting incidences -- or it was the armed contractors who were shot.

6. True enough
It's still hazy enough for disinformation to come through...let the truth come out as soon as possible!

7. I find it indeed strange that we haven't found out the identity
of those killed and how the police knew they were dirty rotten looters.

8. Strange, indeed, how this story has been forgotten. One would think

the media's focus on looting would lead them to trumpet the death of five looters. Instead, we hear nothing.

9. I doubt if we will ever find out
exactly who was shot. Different stories about the incident have been told and the now semi-official story is that someone was shooting at the contractors and the police shot them. But the initial reports were that it was the contractors who were shot. Who knows really happened?

Is that the "official" story that has been playing in the MSM is that 5 or 6 gunmen were killed. The police who did the shooting don't know how many people they killed? Come on, why so vague?

11. This story -- and the delays around it - do not pass
the smell test. Somebody is hiding something very bad. Depend upon it.

12. That was the first report; later ones said the police shot people
who shot at the contractors.

1st AP report: Corps: Contractors Killed in New Orleans (Sept 4th, 6:14pm ET)

2nd AP report: Police Shoot 8 on New Orleans Bridge (Sept 4th, 6:20pm ET)

3rd AP report: Gunmen Attack Contractors on La. Bridge (Sept 4th, 7:35pm ET)

4th AP report: None of the contractors was injured (Sept 5th, 4:30 am ET)

You're free to only believe the first report, of course.
