We all know that a certain, very ugly, very nazi-like segment of the US population is going to support Bush no matter what atrocities he is going to commit.

Every nasty dictator and horrible leader in the world had their supporters right to the end of the regime. I bet there are still people who miss Pol Pot, and Idi Amin---

No ammount of arguing, or education is going to change their minds---none. What we need to do in this country is just find a way to ignore them, and neutralize their influence.

Don't worry about those online polls that much on CNN...the people of the US, and the world have been watching the horrors of Katrina unfold for over a week now--the ones that think the US Gov. did a good job are truly going to be the ones "left behind."

I say, "Good riddance."

1. NO cuz everyone knows FEMA and HS sucks.
They use polls with Bush's name in it to get the freeps to come out from under the rocks.

Even the pollsters are surprised @ the ignorance of the polls.

BTW I was thinking the exact thing you were thinking. I was about to post the same thing in a unfreep a poll thread.

6. Yes, actually DS1...for awhile it did.
The "polls" that were put on websites by the likes of Wolf Blitzer, and those other talentless cable TV hacks at least gave viewers and the internet public a place to state their opinions....that somebody at the networks were forced to look at.

Prior to those, they only had the select "ratings" system in place to try to understand the market.

4. Good call
"No amount of arguing, or education is going to change their minds---none. What we need to do in this country is just find a way to ignore them, and neutralize their influence."

Too bad life doesn't have an "ignore" button:)

Great idea. We routinely ignore the ugly side of life; this shouldn't be all that difficult.

The rightie racist fundies will come out in droves, annoying, bugging, harassing ALL of us regardless of politics and driving everyone nuts.

See they've been found out, that gives Leader the command to order them to attack.

Watch out!!!!! THE FLOODS OF THE FUNDIES ARE COMING, CONDI SAYS!!!

5. I know you are right
and I know that I can spend my time doing better things, but they do put this info on national TV and people are followers. We need all the PR we can get. I do think that this idea is a better way to spend our time, though

8. Let the RW live in Fantasy Land by seeing their polls go overwhelmingly
in their favor.

In the end, it works to our advantage.

I'm with you. Thanks.

9. Then we have only three options
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 07:42 AM by DanCa
1: leave
2: Resort to violence to dwindle there numbers
3: Start having lots of kids to bolster our numbers

If this generation is truly screwed than our only hope is the next one. How long can the effects of Bush's fear gas last?

13. no - i really disagree with that
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 08:01 AM by welshTerrier2
you may be right that we are not going to change "THEIR" minds ... there will always be an entrenched group that will refuse to look at the facts, refuse to learn and refuse to alter their position no matter what the evidence shows ...

but job one has to be education ... not every republican has always been republican ... that's proof that people's views do change ... we should NEVER stop making our case as clearly as we can ... btw, this education campaign needs to be directed at those in our own party as well ... until we all understand some basic set of truths and reach at least some form of consensus on how to address the problems we face, we will never succeed ...

all this focus on education doesn't mean that we shouldn't "neutralize their influence" ... it's NOT an either/or proposition ... we can, and should, do both ... the education process needs to go on simultaneously with the struggle for power; in fact, it's an essential ingredient of that struggle ...

as for online polls, no, they are not overly important ... but if just one mind is changed, if just one vote is influenced, they are very worth participating in ... progressives own the "online world" ... we do better in online polls than we do in non-online polls ... and it's no big deal to click a link and cast a vote ...

and one last thing about polls in general ... polls are a form of democracy in action ... the administration has the "bully pulpit" ... they can make statements like "the American people believe the abortionists went too far" or "Americans want us to take out Saddam" ... it's demoralizing to think that, as an individual, i must be the only one who doesn't agree ... polls can quickly put the lie to administration propaganda ...

we obviously need to do much more than just click little radio buttons online to voice our opinion ... online polls are of fairly limited value ... they are certainly not the foundation of a progressive movement ... but they do have value and the minimal effort required to particpate in them coupled with the fact that they are generally "progressive friendly" make them well worth keeping as a small part of our arsenal of weapons ...

16. Let the polls get utterly freeped. Then some eyes will really get opened.
Suppose a poll "Did the Bush government do a good job handling Katrina?" got totally freeped, like 87 percent say yes. I think enough people would be talking about it and laughing at it that it would wake up more people than if it say 38 percent yes.

17. why should we do that?
why not vote in the poll and have it show that 87% think bush did a miserable job with the hurricane catastrophe?

the point, again, is that online polls usually yield more progressive results than non-online polls ... arguing that we should lose when we almost always win doesn't make any sense ...

14. Correct
they cannot spin this one and as they split up families and deny African Americans the right to leave these camps, this will get worse.

15. They are a total waste of time
and are meaningless.

I love when they polled for how well do people thing Bush handled the disaster and of course he gets over 40%, while the 1 mil people directly effected don't have phones or electric yet and can't be polled.
