Millions of Female Reep Voters will watch Oprah today.
They WORSHIP this woman.

She's been in Houston to meet w/ survivirs at the Astrodome.

I'm curious about how Oprah's going to present all this. Her influence on the hearts and minds of the SUV driving mamas is substantial.

Please report if you catch it--it's not on 'til 4 here cdt.

1. I will be watching, I don't usually watch talk shows but
I am hoping she comes out fighting on this show. If ever there was a time for her to use her influence 'politically', this is it, imo.

2. I don't know how much help she'll do at changing their minds about *.

Oprah tried desperately to sway the elections in her "get out the vote" episodes. It was obvious she was not going to vote for Shrub yet many of her Repug fans still did.

5. She'll probably steer clear of the response issue
and stick to individual stories. She promotes herself as someone who is politically neutral.

6. I'll set my Tivo but she loves Maria and Arnold

so I would not hope for any blaming of Pope George.

She will have a huge audience today, I pray she will say something to indicate how our people were treated.

7. Damn. I'm out of town and the local TV has Ellen up against Oprah.
Ellen is from N.O. and is supposed to be doing a show devoted to the Hurricane Relief effort today(or so I heard).

12. Actually - one of the correspondents addressed the RACE issue
directly -- "I can't help wondering whether, if this happened in an affluent white area, whether the response would have been faster"

i'm rather surprised, have to say.

10. they're getting pretty unvarnished truth here - lots of focus on
dead people - indeed, more than I've seen on ANY show - news or otherwise.

It's .. so far ... incredible.

22. a thought
even though it would be in our favor if she suggested people not vote for Bush, in the grand scheme of things, do you really want to increase the number of people who just vote the way their favorite celebrity tells them to?

23. The point here is that when someone people respect brings an issue
to their attention, they are more likely to think about an issue than if the issue was never brought up by the celebrity.

In this case, it doesn't mean the suv-moms are going to vote for a Democrat in the next election. Remember, they also respect their husbands and in many of these homes, it's as if the husband has 2 votes.

In the last election, there was a suburban Atlanta woman overheard saying her husband made her a "cheat sheet" to take into the polls. So, to me, Oprah bringing issues to the attention of women like this is a much needed service.

26. I see your point as well, but I don't think it's as big of a problem as
people (esp. freepers) seem to think it is.
