Look at it in the context of everything he said:

I'm sure he meant that SO MANY of the victims are poor and black that it is destined play a major role in the controversy to come.

I haven't seen the video online, though. It seemed like a slip of the tongue rather than the kind of deeply corrupt thought that, say, babs bush let slip in her interview, so I'm sure that's partly why it hasn't made the rounds.

Still was a pretty jarring slip, though ...

I, with my very own ears, heard Blitzer say that. It was quite startling, wasn't it?

Edit: I, too, thought he mispoke, because the rest of his comment was "heartfelt." But, it WAS startling, and inner thoughts have a way of coming out in statements like that.
