Wait for the New Orleans Gentrification Projects to begin...
If you believe for ONE DAMN MINUTE that the same people who have been evecuated are going to be able to afford to live ANYWHERE NEAR the heart of "New New Orleans" in the post-reconstruction period, I've got some oceanfront property in Utah I would like you to take a look at.

2. The New Orleans Diaspora was successful...
Phase 2 is continuing
phase 3 will be as you said.

3. welcome to Big Easy World . . .
world-class casinos, luxury hi-rises, and a Starbucks on every corner . . . and no room for the poor, the non-white, or quite probably the non-Christian . . . the modern "Trail of Tears," only a thousand times worse . . .

4. But what do you plan to do about stopping this?
Unfortunately, we may be nothing but bystanders as Halliburton and the like roll into NOLA for the Big Easy Reconstruction...

5. They're not even going to wait for the bodies to get cold

They're in a hurry I suppose because people are finding out that the Failure to Respond was more about grabbing people's land, then incompetence.

8. Many states and municipalities have QUOTA SYSTEMS
where a developer in an urban environment has to build a certain number of low-income units in order to build luxury condos or apartments of that nature...

I think that HUD might have something on the books to enforce this, too.

I can forsee the low income units being located in completely different neighbourhoods than the luxury high-rise models, however...

6. Hey man, whatever it takes...
...to get the levees maintained and an evacuation plan for the city! In fact, I think that every black neighborhood should have a "token white" or two just to make sure they're not forgotten!

Proud to be a "token white" for West Philly!

(Please note the sarcasm here)

Honestly though, we'll all have to keep an eye on New Orleans to make sure this doesn't happen.

7. It started pre-katrina.
someone mentioned the other day (when there was a similar thread) that demolition of 'project' housing had been underway for a couple of years. Nothing new had been built in the area. Who ever is behind the projects demolition will B ready 2 swoop in and give these people a pittance for their homes 'n property. And what will these people do? - they know they will never get money 2 rebuild; they probably don't have any insurance. Everything of value they owned is gone....these R truly the most vulnerable. And the vultures will exploit them.
