A note to ESPN

I listened to a comment by one of the sportscasters about Sean Penn. Sean Penn it seems, went to New Orleans recently. According to this sportscaster, Sean Penn was with his "personal photographer" so that Sean Penn could have heroic photos of himself. Well, let's think a bit. Just Maybe, Sean Penn wanted footage of the destruction. Or, maybe Sean Penn wanted to record the event for history. But this sportscaster and most of ESPN sportscasters vomit up political adolescence too often. Please inform the sportscasters to STFU about politics. That's not why I listen or watch ESPN. But soon it will be why I don't listen or watch ESPN.

Ever heard of Keith Olbermann? I'm not excusing the Penn comment, but just because they are sports broadcasters doesn't mean they aren't entitled to an opinion.

Sure, you've got your sports-announcing loud-and-proud righties like Al Michaels, but on a whole, sports announcers tend to keep their politics to themselves and it's pretty hard to tell where they stand.

For my money, some of the best writing being done in America today is by sportswriters. They're the most opinionated writers out there, and if given a shot at writing about current events, I think many of us would be pleasantly surprised by them.

He is going to do a short subject documentary or something of that sort. One of the reports on his activities in in the death zone pointed this out. (I believe it was on MSNBC, but I've been channel hopping so much, I can't be certain.)
