About that group of children led by the six-year-old

This just occurred to me after re-reading the story. You know the one, the group of infants and toddlers found walking down the road in New Orleans, held together by their "leader," a little six year old.
Here's my question: if a helicopter plucked them from danger and separated them from them families, then HOW IN THE HELL did they end up walking alone down a New Orleans street to be -- luckily --rescued yet again by a passing ambulance. Where did that helicopter dump these babies off?????

get back in the fight and rescue even more people, but this was a special situtation that in my opinion warranted getting these kids directly were they would be surrounded by adults not in trouble themselves.

I think they should investigate this one too. Why would rescuers dump children in the streets to fend for themselves? This is sick.

6. The story I read or heard

was that the mothers wanted the children to go first and they would follow in the next heli. WHile I understand their desire to save their children, the rescuers should have insisted that one adult from the family accompany the children for the sake of their safety

Why?! Surely they could've taken even ONE of those mothers. It's not as if the 5 month old baby added a great deal to the chopper's weight.

9. The Causeway. A highway.

The chopper dumped them on a highway, just as they did with many others. Those are some of the people that Shepard Smith was begging authorities to help. They were 'rescued' once and dropped into a situation from which there was no escape, shelter, food, or water. Unbelievable.

The goal was to get as many people out of New Orleans as possible, but with no thought of the next step. I understand some people spent days in the sun with no shade on the highway, after they were dropped off by the helicopter.

The Causeway they were on, I believe, was flooded at both ends. There was no way out (and no shade, food, water, or official supervision), yet there WERE roads open to outside NO because that's how early responders/media came in to the city. Why couldn't the choppers identify those areas and drop people there? (Rhetorical questions. I certainly don't expect you to know what they were thinking. :hi:)
