KatrinaBodyCount.com

If you are expecting an accurate count of deaths caused by Katrina hurricane and flooding, you're wrong.

Just like US casualties in Iraq got doctored
Just like Iraqi civilian casualties in Iraq are not counted "because we're not in the business of counting civilian deaths

They'll lie about how many people died.
They'll hide the bodies.
They'll arrest photographers who take pictures of the coffins.
They'll fire Federal employees who let anyone take pictures of the coffins.

I'd suggest a Katrina version of IraqBodyCount.com so we could at least keep track of the discrepancies as they are made public.

FEMA Wants No Photos of Dead
NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. agency leading Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts said Tuesday that it does not want the news media to photograph the dead as they are recovered.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, heavily criticized for its slow response to the devastation caused by the hurricane, rejected journalists' requests to accompany rescue boats searching for storm victims.

An agency spokeswoman said space was needed on the rescue boats.

"We have requested that no photographs of the deceased be made by the media," the spokeswoman said in an e-mail.

6. I'll pass on taking a look

What's of interest to me is any federal attempt to restrict documentation of deaths.

5. Out of respect- - -
for the families of the dead I don't think pictures of bloated bodies should be shown--but body bags being hauled into the morgue sites should be shown so NO ONE can deny the extent of this criminal neglect! Reporters ought to be able to accompany the recovery so they can write about it.

7. Not broadcast, but definitely taken.
If there were pictures of my family members, I certainly wouldn't want them all over the web/TV/magazines for people to gape at, but pictures ought to be taken and available for anyone to look at or examine. Perhaps kept in a public records office somewhere.
