What really pisses me off, I realize as I sit here listening to John Cornyn spending minutes upon minutes expounding on how wonderful the people of Texas have been, is that as much as they say "Let's not play the blame game, let's concentrate on getting these people the help they need"... they are doing neither. They're spending their precious time in the spotlight talking about what they've already done. Why isn't John Cornyn saying "I call upon my fellow Senators now to call your constituents, call your contributors, go out there yourself, write legislation to help these people?" Why does he seem so content to rest on his laurels? Is he done?
For all the finger-pointing and blaming the Democrats do, at the core we want CHANGE. We want FEMA's head fired so someone more competent will come in and do more. We want an investigation to figure out what went wrong so we can fix it. We want Bush out not for its own sake, but so someone better can come in.
These guys don't want change at all. They want to congratulate themselves on actions that have little to nothing to do with them and things that are already finished. Talking about it does nothing. Talk about what to do now, and if that's finger-pointing, then we should be finger-pointing.
Edit: Now Ted Kennedy is making a laundry list of things to do: Create a Gulf Coast Redevelopment Authority, among others. That's what I want to hear. It's boring, constructive Senate talk. Go Ted.
