2. That is nuts!
I know those rigs were floating around all over the place, but that picture is just surreal.

5. this was (is) a flotel on a barge
it was in port and blew from its moorings...not from the Gulf. I have only seen one actual rig in from the Gulf...I think it was 60 miles from where it tore loose.

8. Mobile, AL?
Looks like the bridge. I live right across the bay.

A lot of the damage in AL has been almost ignored. I understand because it is far less than LA or MS, but still devastating to some of the smaller towns right on the Gulf. A couple of them were basically wiped out.

Do they know for sure how many people may be dead?

We lived a few miles north of there in Belle Fontaine and had been to BLB many times.....my husband heard a lot of the houses and boats were "just" gone. I know some people actually lived on their fishing boats. We heard they had no idea how many could have been washed away.

Are you hearing that? My aunt who lives down there is elderly and she doesn't know anything that's going on except in her neighborhood.

Also, Dauphin Island and that bridge? Any news from there?

We're not getting any news here about it since our wonderful governer announced everything is fine and taken care of....:sarcasm:

Edit: spelling

10. May damage the bridge even more.
As the water recedes it looks like it is caught and hanging from the bridge. It's weight may do very severe additional damage.

13. Mobile, AL
Cochran-Africa Town bridge. Local TV had tape of "rig" hitting bridge - it was like slow motion. Closed two lanes (one on each side) but it is open. I used it this a.m. coming to work. Better than coming in on I-10 and through the Wallace tunnels for me.

I believe this shot is while they were backing it away from bridge to return to its moorings.

Agree with poster that much damage to infra-structure that is storm related is being "ignored" by local and state gov't. However, they are working to repair the damage to this bridge which appears to be relatively minor.
