Some positive news from the California Front
I know what the polls say and too many people are taking them as gospel. Let me tell you what's happening on the front lines all over the state.

We've been walking precincts, have set up phone trees, are working with labor unions, all Democratic Clubs, the California Democratic Council, California Democratic Party, tabling, flyering and speaking out against the recall at anyone who will listen. Latino voter registration is up 300%. Additionally, the news about Arnold's groping and supportive comments about Hitler are making news nationally. Women's groups are mobilizing against "Governor Groper."

I've been working our local Democratic Party Office pretty steadily for about the last two weeks and I have NEVER seen complete, total strangers walk in/call the office, OUTRAGED about this recall and wanting to volunteer to do SOMETHING. Needless to say, we put them to work immediately. As Art Torres keeps saying, "Democrats are coming home." We're mobilizing as we haven't in a LONG time and average voters are ASKING to get involved.

I just saw a commercial with Phil Angeledes (State Treasurer) urging people to vote "no" on the recall. Cruz Bustamante's commercials have been running non-stop and I believe Move-On now has enough $$ to start running ads in the major media markets throughout the state.

I can't guarantee that this will translate into a win but if the worst happens and we have Governor Groper by next week, it sure as hell won't be for a lack of effort on our part. Not to mention that Governor Groper will STILL have to deal with Democrats in the A.G., Lt. Governor, State Controller, State Treasurer, 2 Senators, a majority of Congresspersons and a Democratic Legislature. Can we say "Lame Duck? (I knew you could.)

So ENOUGH with all this "woah is me" crap. It ain't over 'till it's over, baby!

NO on Recall
YES on Bustamante
NO on 54

3. Thank you for the work you and the others are doing
I hope Dems are coming home becuz according to Field Poll lots of them are undecided and if they decide in these closing days to come home to Davis and Cruz then we can beat back the recall.

4. Prop #54
What effect do you think that that will have on getting out the base to vote?

I remember that in 1982 what pushed Geroge Deukmajian across the finish line via absentee ballots was a gun control initiative that brought out the right wing en masse.

6. That's your first clue that the gov polls can't be too accurate
they show a fairly solid defeat for prop 54.

7. What I do remember
is that the polls in 1982 predicted a Bradley win over Deukmajian but he lost when the late ballots were counted.

Then again, as Bradley was black, I am sure that people lied to the pollsters at the time.

8. I wouldn't say it will have a huge effect, but . . .
Civil Rights groups are all over it -- pushing "No on 54" just as hard as the other two issues. Ah, Ward Connerly, our own little Clarence Thomas. We actually have another term for him around here but I dare not use it. Suffice it to say it's not very flattering.

5. Thanks so much for what you are doing up there
I've been on the phone for four days straight during the day and evening. It has been a bit of a challenge down here in OC fighting the right wing propaganda AND the language challenge but we are also making good headway on getting out the vote as well.

10. Thank YOU!
EVERY Democrat in this state needs to be on the phones or walking precincts. Davis is in town tomorrow and we've got a HUGE rally planned. One our members is making a "No Groper" sign (Red circle with a diagonal line through it with the word "groper" in the middle.)

11. I hate to be negative but you need TWO things with Touchscreens Fraud
The first is poll numbers to support your fraud. If Fielding had NO on Recall at say 60%, then for the Recall to win would raise a lot of Flags.

This is what happened in Florida in 2002.

UP until the day of the governor's race, McBride had been pulling level with Bush. It was going to be a cliff hanger. BUT the day of the election ONE and ONLY ONE Poll had Bush winning by 14%. And guess what Bush won by.

14. Thanks for your post Le Taz Hot.
I've been wondering how things are going in the Fresno area. So glad to get a first person account of the mobilization in your part of the state!

Do the (R)'s have a history of high voter turnout in your area?

:hi:

20. Yes, but I'm not all that concinved
that they're all that motivated this time. I've talked with several who are actually ashamed of this whole recall farce and have actually said they are voting "no" on the recall or "yes" on the recall but will vote McClintock.

16. That is good news -- THANKS!
The one thing that the media was reporting regularly when Bustamante was ahead in the polls -- but which they are now overlooking -- is that no one knows what kind of model to use for these polling samples since there is no prior experience with a recall election.

I wonder if we'll know the outcome on Tuesday..... My suspicion is that we will only get it that fast if, in fact, Ahhhnold has won. Otherwise, I'll bet there's some hanky-panky to play that will hold up the returns for a few days.

18. I can Only add
If you live in California and want to help, ALL union offices everywhere are going to need volunteers to man phones, and assemble door hangers. Call up or use the internet to find them in your area.

Call a union and offer your services.

In Ventura County:

Laborer's Local 585, 21 S. Dos Caminos, Ventura
to put precinct
information on door hangars, which will be distributed this
weekend. There are 20,000 door hangars so many helping hands are
needed. We will work until we're finished so come whenever you
can. (Closed Friday night)hence, Im HERE

While you're helping out, plan to sign up this weekend, Monday and
Tuesday (Election Day!) to help walk precincts and GOTV.

Directions: From the east, exit the 101 Fwy. at Main Street in
Ventura. Continue past the Pacific View Mall and turn right on S.
Dos Caminos. #21 is at the corner of Central.

From the west, exit the 101 Fwy. at Seaward. Head north toward the
hills. Turn right on Main Street to Telegraph. Continue on
Telegraph for one block. Turn right on S. Dos Caminos.

25. I don't expect the winner to be
known on Tuesday after the election. I can't imagine knowing the results of that fiasco for at least a few days/weeks.

NOW HERE IS WHAT I DON'T WANT TO SEE AND THAT IS NEWS REPORTS ON TUESDAY TRYING TO PICK THE WINNER BEFORE THE VOTES ARE COUNTED.

Matthews will be out there and even though he wishes it wasn't Arnold he still is for the repugs, so I hope he keeps his big mouth closed on the outcome but i guess that would be expecting too much.
