Did I watch Bush shoot himself in the foot on national TV this afternoon?
He was asked about the criticsm and he responded by saying "people have to understand the relationship between the federal government, state government and local government" with a smile.

Am I the only one that thinks this kind of "hey it wasn't my fault!" reaction only makes him look even weaker, more childish and more incompetent?

2. It grates on my nerves when he does this "people have to understand" bull.
Considering he's the dumbest brick in the house, he probably shouldn't be telling people what to understand.

And he's always doing it, telling us what he knows, telling us what he understands, what others have to understand....

So annoying.

12. Yeah, that kills me too
He is forever telling us he "unnerstans" something, as if that's all that's required. So far, he unnerstans that water is wet, hurricanes are destructive, and that people need help. I have a choleus plant in my garden that knows that much, and it's much better looking than Chimpy.

3. The relationship is simple:
Local government works, state government works, federal government takes vacation and shows up three days late.

If you are looking to find fault with someone and aren't sure of who to blame, I'd tend to lean towards the folks on vacation.

11. yes...i think those few decent people left in his camp
will be sickened by the inexcusable bungling of this rescue effort. i heard a two-time bush voter on the radio the other day saying he could not support the incompetent or his party again.
and yeah...he can keep the racist nitwits.

13. Yes, but he is loved MORE by FEWER people every day!
Let him go back under his rock
with the fundies and the
inbred white-supremacy morans.

Cuz without the fawning, unquestioning support
of the largest media-machine in history...
that's all he's got.

And the media are starting to turn...

7. You're right, it does make him look worse to me, but
I've detested George W Bush for a long time now. And my rage went into new territory last week after this unfolded. So yeah, I think his statement makes him look like a piece of human garbage who has never, but never, accepted responsibility for anything in his entire irresponsible life. But that's me.

What about the "Average American", whoever that is? Presumably lots of these average Americans voted for him last November and in 2000. How do they see Bush's blame-shifting, evasiveness, and excuses? Are they tired of being lied to yet, or do they still not understand they're being lied to? As much as I despise 2-time Bush voters, these will have to be the people who have finally had enough if there is to be any positive outcome to any of this.

14. I understand the relationship very well, Mr. President.
In the event of a national emergency, the federal government has prime responsibility. Your government failed to act in a timely manner and thousands died as a result. You appointed a completely unqualified person to a very important post with tragic consequences.

We have 50 states with emergency response directors. In a rational government, one of the outstanding performers from that group would have been appointed. But you picked a guy that set up horse shows and got fired. That tells mr you have no concern for the safety of the American People, Mr. Bush.

You were strumming your guitar when this was happening, Mr. Bush:

the "I'm going to investigate this" BS - fox investigating the curious murder in the henhouse.

Bush really set himself up for a well-deserved pasting with this no-brainer of a press op

20. Even worse he said he & his gang "solved problems". No - they let
problems fester if it suits their agenda. Bush let the pain of 9/11 fester because it paid off in a compliant public.

He let's election lack of transparency fester because it divides Dems.

He let New Orleans fester for 4 days.
