I'm reminded of Al Gore's speech at the 2000 convention
I love Al Gore's speech from the 2000 convention so sometimes when I'm feeling down and want to remember what it's like to have a real president and vice president I go to cspan.org and type in democratic national convention and I find older speeches and just watch them and Al Gore's 2000 address is my favorite of them all. Here is something he said that I would like to tell George Bush someday (besides telling him he's a thief and a murder):

"Being the president is not a popularity contest. Sometimes you have to choose what is difficult over or unpopular. Sometimes you have to be willing to spend your popularity in order to pick the hard right over the easy wrong. There are big chioces ahead and our whole future is at stake and I do have strong beliefs about it. If you intrust me with the presidency I know I won't always be the most exciting politician but I pledge to you tonight I will work for you everyday and I will never let you down. If we allow ourselves to believe without reservation that we can do what is right then we will be better for it then the best America will be our America. In this city of Angels we can summon the better angels of our nature. Do not rest where we are or retreat. Do all we can to make America be all that it can become. Thank you. God bless you and God bless America." (psst, in this speech towards the end you can see the lovely Martin Sheen)

1. I love that speech too!
I thought I was the only one who read/watched it when I was down! His call to younger people made me realize that politics and working FOR people was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

2. Well, Gore is the person the US voted for president
Just because * bullied his way into office, doesn't mean he won it.

3. Yep
He's my real president. *sigh* Him and John Kerry. But that speech is great! I wish I could see the whole convention from that year.

4. One odd irony
I loved President Gore's speech during the 2000 Convention. I thought he was great.

But does anyone else find it ironic that the man that said the Presidency wasn't a popularity contest, went on to win the popular vote?
