Bush to speak at racist judge's funeral in honor of Katrina vicitims

In an effort to prove he really likes black people and that his incompetence is not rooted in racism, George Bush has agreed to speak at racist Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist's funeral.

Asked if this proves he really doesn't like black people, Bush responded, "No. If I declined to speak at Rehnquist's funeral, people would think I was trying to hide my racism.

However, if I am racist in my deeds, nobody can believe what they just saw so they KNOW it can't be true."
:sarcasm:

WASHINGTON - Teary-eyed Supreme Court justices, a somber
President Bush and one-time clerk John Roberts led a long line of Americans paying their last respects to William H. Rehnquist, the chief justice whose conservatism helped drive the high court toward the right.

Washington protocol underscored a changing of the guard Tuesday. Roberts, the former Rehnquist clerk named to succeed his old boss, was among the pallbearers carrying the flag-draped casket up the court's long steps and into the Great Hall.

Rehnquist died Saturday at 80 after battling thyroid cancer.

Bush, his head bowed, and first lady
Laura Bush spent about a minute standing near the casket and a short time looking at the portrait of Rehnquist on a stand nearby. Justice
Antonin Scalia escorted the couple.

1. And just in case people do not know - from dershowitz:

The young Rehnquist began his legal career as a Republican functionary by obstructing African-American and Hispanic voting at Phoenix polling locations (“Operation Eagle Eye”). As Richard Cohen of The Washington Post wrote, “e helped challenge the voting qualifications of Arizona blacks and Hispanics. He was entitled to do so. But even if he did not personally harass potential voters, as witnesses allege, he clearly was a brass-knuckle partisan, someone who would deny the ballot to fellow citizens for trivial political reasons -- and who made his selection on the basis of race or ethnicity.” In a word, he started out his political career as a Republican thug.

2. No reason for the POTUS not to speak at the CJ's funeral.

There's a lot of things to criticize Bush about.

This isn't one of them.

Do you think Kerry would have snubbed Rehnquist's funeral after Katrina?
