How will we escape the karma?
I've been crying on and off all week, now. Three times today. The first time was while listening to our local Air America station replay Geraldo Rivera's Fox News "breakdown" over the radio. This was before I knew he "rescued" the same lady and her dog twice in one day. Had I known, I probably still would have cried, though. It was heart-wrenching to listen to him say, "Look at this baby... Look at these babies..."

The second time I cried was when I filled up my little Chevy S-10 and it cost me $52.00. FIFTY-TWO dollars. (And they call people carrying off tennis shoes looters.) The last time I cried today, was when I read Barbara Bush's statement where she said the people in the Astrodome were making out pretty good, considering how they lived before the hurricane. This is the stuff you read in history books and gafaw at the incredulity of it all. (Let the eat cake.) How can it be happening again? And then to find as our people are starving and drowning and dying from exposure and lack of medicine, our vice president is shopping for another multi-million dollar home. I can't stand it.

The usual religious nuts have been coming out saying Katrina is punishment for not obliterating gay people, or allowing women to have safe, legal abortions. Zarqawi the Fuck, said we were being paid back for the war in Iraq. Somehow, I think his assertation is closer to the truth, (if there is such a thing as truth, anymore), even though it spews from the mouth of the devil.

Despite which devil is which, it's obvious our country has come under a very dark cloud. As I sat in a literature class tonight discussing the despair that befell Europe in the early 30s, I felt an eery parallel and I'm wondering if we will be able to escape the karma George Bush has brought upon our nation. How? How? How? I'm scared.

3. Why is it happening to those who have had the least to do with
the evils perpetrated by the cabal in the White House?

5. T.A.N.J.
There Ain't No Justice.

If Karma exists, they're running up one hell of a tab.

4. This IS the Karma my dear.
Of course i could be wrong; but I just think this is the payback. We've been skating along too well (even including 9/11). BIG wake-up call.

6. Nonsense
This catastrophe has overwhelmingly affected minorities and the poor. These groups already tend to vote Democratic, but the hurricane's devastation is very concentrated on a large population of "blue" citizens. Not exactly war-mongers here.

Karma's a superstition.

When large amounts of the poor are dying, I wonder how that can be perceived as Bush paying for anything.

7. I'm asking how we can escape the karma Bush has brought upon us.
I know it's a superstition, but when there are no answers one tends to fall back on primal instinct.

8. There's little to escape
Unfortunately, people and nations very rarely get their comeuppance. History's too messy for that. Britain spent half a millennia trouncing around the globe, and they remain one of the richest and most powerful nations on earth. They never were able to hold onto their empire, but they're not exactly suffering these days.

So, I suspect, it will be for America. We may see our power diminish over time, but we'll most likely remain as we are, through all the upheavals and disasters, natural and political.

We won't be invaded, the Republic will not die, Democrats will be elected, and life will go on. That is the key: life always goes on.

But, hey, that's just me. I've never been partial to Chicken Little behavior, or fear that some great evil is streaming at us out of Mordor. Bush will be gone in three years, and whoever takes his place will be the new locus of darkness. And so on and so forth.

Remember, for many on the Right, Clinton was the anti-christ. Yet, here we are, still standing. A little worse for wear these days, but we'll endure.
