New Madrid would probably be worse because of multiple cities being flattened, but I think LA getting devastated would still be quite a large issue, to say the least.

This was a hurricane. You had warning. You don't have any sort of warning on earthquakes, much less any time to evacuate people.

I live in a state where we could have a tsunami (we had a tsunami warning just a few months ago), an earthquake (we had a big one just 4 years ago), or a volcano. All of us in Washington state are thinking that we would be left on our own if any of those disasters happened.
I think governors are probably going to band together to see if they could help each others in times of crises and forget about the federal government.

I would often have nightmares right before this So Cal family would visit family in the Tri-Cities. I would dream there would be an incident and my family would never be allowed to leave.

A large magnitude earthquake in San Francisco is one of the disasters predicted by one of the federal emergency agencies (can't remember the name)and given to Homeland Security. The other two were a terrorist attack and a big category hurricane to hit New Orleans. So now that these have happened, we are waiting on the earthquake here in California.

At least this time, I will be able to help. I only live 200 miles from the San Fransisco Bay Area.

I've seen the probability values on New Madrid. The probability is almost zero of it going in the lifetime of anyone alive today, or their great, great, great, great grandchildren. It gets up to a 0.1% probability in 264 years!

San Andreas is over 0.8% EVERY SINGLE year. And that means there is a 99.2% chance of getting through the year. So, every single year that goes by, the probability gets worse and worse. There is a 50:50 chance in only 48 years. THAT(!) is pretty scary.

17. It's not the San Andreas that is worried about....

it is the Hayward fault line running smack dab through the east bay. It would be far more devestating than the '06 quake.

And my heart stops thinking about what would happen with these morans in charge.

Luckily, on a local level, we have some pretty serious disaster preparedness planning and drilling, so I like to think we'd manage until the rest of the country came to our aid.
