It's not just a leak, it's TREASON!

Bush is mad about the leak ... not, apparently, upset at all about the nature (treasonous) or byproduct of the leak (hopelessly undercutting our national security). This man is too stupid and dangerous to realize just how stupid and dangerous he is.

<http://www.washtimes.com/national/20031003-112919-3116r.htm>

President Bush is privately seething over a reported leak about the identity of a CIA analyst and has twice in recent days reminded White House employees about their commitment to uphold the honor and integrity of the office, according to senior administration officials.

"The president does not like leaks. Anytime a leak becomes a distraction, he becomes particularly irritated," one senior administration official said, adding that the president "made it clear" Monday and Tuesday that he expects the highest ethical behavior by staff members.

2. Agree - tired of hearing this called a "leak"
Sounds like he went to the bathroom. This is very serious stuff. This is treason and the word should be used over and over again

But Sir, the horses escaped two months ago!

Your just telling me now?

You told us not to bother you with trivial matters.

4. It's the TREASON, stupid!
Should be said to any and all fools who want to tell you this is just politics, and no big deal.

Not bad for a bumper sticker, either.

5. Yes!! I love it!
A good return on the "It's the economy, stupid!"

We should go for it!

Clinton had sex, yes. But this asshole has actually done a possibly EXECUTABLE offense!

6. A 'distraction'....'irritated'
...this coming from an 'administration' that was unqualified to take office in the first place. They just don't seem to 'get' or care that this is about more than THEM.

12. That's the part that I find especially offensive
Q, that's the part that makes me see red. He's apparently unconcerned about any treasonous behavior, any unethical act, as long as they don't come to light and cause irritation for HIM. In his eyes, the whole world revolves around him, and what he wants.

I doubt that he's even able to clearly understand why divulging an agent's name was an act of treason; in his mind, he and the United States are the same thing. He's confusing being president with being king.

7. Even worse than treason?
It's the cover-up of the treason.

W is the boss. A member or members of his staff have committed a felony. This crime is a not an allegation, it is a documented fact. The question is not did someone out a CIA agent, the question is who? It is up to W to tell us, who on his staff is involved in this, no matter who it is. However, as we can see, W has chosen to protect known felons rather than protecting the best interest of the American people and our national security.

I'll be generous, I'll give W two weeks to have a press conference, to apologize to the country and to name the members of his staff, who are submitting immediate resignations. Nothing less will do.

8. Here's a question of semantics...
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 09:02 AM by rasputin1952
I agree that this was a treasonable act; but was it an act of treason?

The individual(s), that initially told this group of reporters about Plame, committed a crime, perhaps a treasonable act. But 'Treason' may be to harsh a word, because they would have had to have the INTENT of bring down the government. From what I've seen and heard, the object of the 'leak' was to silence Wilson, and others that may come forward with information concerning the reasons stated by the administration for the war in Iraq. So the 'intent' was coercing silence.

Then again, if those at the top of this administration knew this was going to happen, sanctioned it, that is a serious breech of the law, and they should be held to account. If impeachmnet and trial are warranted, then so it should be. What could be considered an act of treason, is that the admin knew this was happening, and allowed it to happen, to solidify it's position and usurp the Constitution, and the future of representative gov't in th US.

Until some facts come out, I hold the treason word close. The only difference between a traitor and a martyr, is who is looking at the evidence and how they interpret it.

Good Lord...I hope I'm not defending these SOB's! That is certainly not my intent, I just want facts before I declare how I stand on such serious charges.

edited for spelling

11. If this was an isolated incident
then I'd agree. But this is just one item in a laundry list of offenses that qualifies this bunch has the most treasonist bunch of bastards to ever take control of the US government.

From allowing the US to be attacked on 9-11, to helping the bin Ladens leave the US two days after the attack, to lying about the reasons to launch pre-emptive war, and now outing CIA agents, that's not treason?

15. I'm not saying it was or wasn't...
and for sure, I don't want to protect these jerks from anything that may be coming their way. It is just that Treason is such a heinous crime to me, I tend to move quietly around it and get things in order before I declare my view.

As for this being the most corrupt, inept and repulsive administration this nation has ever had, I have no doubt. It will take years to repair the damage, and it is a daunting task, I do not envy the next president or his/her cabinet.

I will continue to do everything in my power to get these people out of office, by any means legally available. I make no bones about that.

But what Oliver North and Poindexter did, IMHO was treason, and now look at those two turds! They should be in prison with their cronies and one is a TV celebrity and the other is STILL involved in dubious deals in the gov't!

The crime of Treason, must be held to a higher standard, and prosecution applied under direct evidence of complicity. If North and Poindexter lowered the bar by getting off as easy as they did, we must make sure the case is "airtight", or the accused can be seen as a martyr, and we lose the opportunity to have the traitor incarcerated.

I hate these people with a visceral passion, but just as I would never asassinate one of them, I will not stoop to their level. I have been called a traitor by some because I am a progressive. But I served my country with distinction, and have always felt 'blessed' by being born here. I cannot, and will not, allow these people to trample on the rights and liberties of others without a passionate fight.

But I want to know the basics in this case: WHO, WHAT, WHEN and WHERE. Then I can decide if it was an act of treason. Only an independant counsel can unearth these facts, and that is why I am calling for one.

:grr:

Thanks for letting me rant, sorry if anyone got the impression I would defend these SOB's, I just want to make sure this can't come back and shoot us in the ass.

18. I understand your POV
But what Ollie & Poindexter did pales in comparision to W sitting on his ass reading a children's book while he knew highjacked planes were in the air and that two had already hit their targets. That is the moment he proved to the world that he is a traitor and worse. Everything else he has done since is just further proof of this fact.

9. Back to the good old days.
This week has brought America back to the days before Bush was our "great assertive leader" (dictator).

The CIA story doesn't seem like it's going away.

13. It bothers me that it is called a "leak."
Some group in the administration, probably from the office of the vice president, maybe from Cheney himself, told the press the name of a CIA agent. It wasn't exactly leaked by some mole or anti-Bush staff member; it was a planned piece of information from the administration. Hell, they may as well have announced it at a press conference. No one in the administration, including the president, saw anything wrong with it until Wilson started complaining and the media started reporting it. Isn't a "leak" when someone in the admin tells something the admin doesn't want told? But they wanted it told. Even Kerry called it a leak (though he had a funny line), when we should be calling it treason. The CIA agents think it's treasonous.

14. Actually...this story is already 'going away'...
...as I predicted last week. It's down to second-third page status in most papers and is hardly being mentioned at all in the network media.

- It won't entirely 'go away'...but it's no longer front page news. This will give the Bushies the opportunity to spin it anyway they want.

16. I disagree, it is not going away....
Novak now has a lawyer, WP article on the CIA front that Novak exposed, the Wilsons are looking at a civil suit, John Dean, in a salon article, writing about what a civil suit did for Watergate, the 5 CIA agents on tv last night, noooo, this is NOT going away.

17. They will try to bury this...
but it is not going to go away. There is simply too much attached to this.

There are a few ways the admin could deal with this, a LIHOP/MIHOP attack on US soil; trying to 'spin' it's way out; or just plain "fessin' up".

I submit that the latter is not going to happen, and the second is already happening. That leaves the first option, and I REALLY think they are just sick enough and drunk with power that it just might.

But that would backfire as well. The citizens would be in an uproar and really start to ask questions.

Why aren't we any safer now?

Where is bin-Laden?

Where is Saddam?

Why didn't the greatest technological power the world has ever seen, allow some people in the mountain garb and not morew more technology than a cell phone allow this to happen?

People would be storming the gates, warming up the tar and gathering feathers!
