Calling all socialists, greens, social democrats, and commies

Just out of curiosity how many of us here support the Democratic Party or at least segments of the party and also are members of other left leaning parties and organizations. I am a member of DSA Democratic Socialists of America which is a socialist/social democratic organization that works with but not exclusively with the Dem Party. DSA mostly focuses on the Progressive Caucus. As I see it, even though we have many moderates in the Dem party we have made much progress in the last decade. the Black, Hispanic, and Progressive caucuses have all grown in members and are all to the Left. The women's caucus has grown in Congress as well. There are over 100 Dems in congress who support single payer universal healthcare. Our congressional leader is from one of the most liberal cities in the nation and is the first woman to play a leadership role in congress. We also have great Senators like Feingold and Boxer.

Greens, socialists, and social dems overlap in a lot of ways..i consider myself a mix between socialist and social dem..i think things like insurance, healthcare, and energy should be socialized and small bsuiness should be free and regulated..also i dont believe private property such as homes should be against the law as a communist would.

12. I don't actually belong to any progressive caucus, but I

consider myself a social Democrat. I lean heavily to social safety net programs like universal health care to be managed by government agencies outside of the political ring. I believe we need an ammendment to the Constitution that spells out human rights, like the right to health care access.

15. I am a registered Democrat simply because, under the circumstances,

I feel I have to vote with the party that represents ideals that are more similar to mine than not. HOWEVER!- I do not agree with the majority of the Democratic officials. My ideas are much more socialist. Probably more in line with communism than I even realize. When I represent myself and my ideals, I do so as a registered Democrat but I do not play the party line. I play my own tune, hoping to affect the overall timbre and face of this party to move further from the "center" and more toward an equitable, sustainable representative body of society.

17. I'm a green, former democrat....

Voted solidly dem for 30 years until 2004. I'll still support REAL progressive dems, e.g. Kucinich or Boxer (maybe Feingold-- maybe...), but that's it. I voted for Cobb in 2004 and will continue to support Green candidates unless the democratic party stops its headlong rush to the right.

on edit: first litmus test-- true opposition to the war against Iraq and a call for an IMMEDIATE withdrawal.

20. I remain hesitant as far as support for the Democratic Party

A form of libertarian socialist here.

I'm a "little 'd'" Democrat at most. I remain very hesitant to vote for the Democratic Party because a) I get the message about party unity being shoved down my throat despite what my principles and ideas are, b) you've got Democrats who are so corrupted with corporate special interest money taking pot-shots at me because I'm considered "fringe," and c) the Democratic Party structure is too top-heavy as far as decision-making power and not more grassroots in nature.

I'm the one being told to give up my ground. I'm the one being attacked and ridiculed by other Democrats because I'm considered fringe and insane, and I'm the one certain business interests within the Democratic Party would love to muzzle permanently.

My political ideology is not that different from that of Noam Chomsky. My views make me a form of libertarian socialist. He considers himself as an anarcho-syndicalist. This is why I have Noam Chomsky as my avatar and that particular star in my signature. If people are to save themselves, they must come together and use their heads and their hands to save themselves. People have so much potential power that could be unleashed if they realized that cooperating with one another hand-in-hand would help greatly instead of simply deferring to some authority that's thousands of miles away that may or may not be looking out for their best interests.

Yes, I am registered as a Democrat, but sometimes I wonder why I still remain a Democrat. I have grown distrustful of political parties in general. I'd rather have a Congress full of thinking independents than a party dittoheads and corporatists always talking about "unity."

I follow the Euro Left model for economic issues. I believe healthcare and education should be accesible to anyone and labor protections should be present.
