With Limbo Out, What Is George WILL's Creepy Secret?
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 11:30 AM by UTUSN
from BROCK, Blinded by the Right (paper):

*********QUOTE*******
p. 197-8. Unlike Ricky and Larry's generation of conservatives, who were steeped in conservative ideology and seemed to deeply believe the stuff, Ann (COULTER) and I reflected the bumper-sticker conservatism of the younger set. .... As with my later relationship with Laura Ingraham, Ann and I never had a serious conversation about politics, or anything else. Instead, we smoked, drank to excess--Ann seemed to live on nothing but chardonnay and cigarettes--and vented our anger and cruelty by hurling all manner of epithets at liberals and the disadvantaged among us. ....

p. 254. When I introduced Laura to Atlas, her one desire in life was to leave her law firm and get herself on television as a political pundit, despite the fact that she was the only person I knew who didn't appear to own a book or regularly read a newspaper. ....

p. 255. Yet of all the conservatives I had met since coming to Washington, I grew closest to Laura. For several months after we met in November l994, we were inseparable companions. Laura drew me out of my shell; she helped me to relax and enjoy myself among the conservatives. She was a much more prodigious networker than I was, and she was also a wicked gossip, befriending the likes of Rush Limbaugh and George Will, then repeating their often creepy confidences to me. .... In candid moments, she confided she didn't believe much of what she was saying on the airwaves. ....

1. Question re: paperback edition
I bought the hardcover but lent it to someone and I don't think it's coming back. :(

I was wondering if the paperback edition had any "additions" - ex. a new foreword, after word?

I would probably buy it again anyway, but new material would be an added bonus.

2. Well, It's Got 6 Pages of "Preface to the Paperback Edition"
that mostly deals with how the original book was greeted, with slams by interviewers against his credibility. It's called "Silence on the Right".

It makes the point that, except for one error in date/time of an event, NOTHING has been challenged by wingnut ex-friends as being untrue. I say the same re: BLUMENTHAL.

3. Thanks, that is interesting
I am so much more familiary with right-wing antics and the names of right-wing players now than I was when I read the book, so I think I'll probably get another copy (maybe used)

15. that's probably being charitable
My guess is that George's tastes don't run towards consenting adults... Didn't he dodge the draft be being in a Catholic Seminary?
Always had very creepy aura around him in my book, I wouldn't let him near children.

Yeah, I know that's a vicious smear and I don't care right now. RW pundits who don't like the heat are welcome to get the hell out of the kitchen and not let the door hit their bloated backsides on the way out.

7. "she confided she didn't believe much of what she was saying
on the airwaves" This is the BIG HOAX perpurtrated by neocon and RW pundits. They really are the sleazeballs we think they are. They really DON'T believe much of what they spew on the air...Rush included. They recognize the utter stupidity, racism, and shallowness of their audience and they intend to appeal to their inner darkness to the tune of millions in book sales, sponsorships, and RW support. They know exactly what they are doing. This statement is the real 'elephant in the network board rooms.' They laugh all the way to the banks about the idiocy of the dittoheads. It is so shameful...but people hear what they want to hear and they will gravitate to anyone who legitimizes their banality.

8. Of course they don't believe it, they're actors
just like Arnold, they're actors that basically do improv. He said "bumper sticker" conservative, as if they memorized some slogals and jokes and weaved them into a pseudo extemporaneus monologue.

Rush Limbaugh fanatized about joining the Hollywood "news elite" - remember his crush on Connie Chung or someone years ago? He'd rather be hanging out with the liberals, but they have rejected him, and besides, he's making millions doing this.

They are actors, and their scripts are written at RNC headquarters. Seriously, they get the scripts faxed every morning, and then do improv from it.

10. Yep, He's Always Had a "Thing" About Larry KING
Over the 15 years, he has repeated how, in his early years he approached Larry KING, then the biggest radio personality, and got snubbed. He's gotten (some of) his kicks by surpassing LK and everybody else. That is, when he's not taking the victim role, while constantly bashing Senator CLINTON for "playing victim".

12. certainly must be true of lots of the Jewish guys...
that back bushinc like horowitz and kristol, tom friedman and dershowitz etc....they think that pandering to the bully brainless neanderthali will redirect attention away from Israel, which depends entirely on US support, and onto the poor, the black the 3rd world, arabs or whoever.
That's the only thing that explains how the one time co-editor (with peter collier) of Ramparts Magazine circa 30 years ago, can spout racist right wing nonsense with straight face....

11. George Will is a pathetic joke
really, does anyone actually read that tripe? His faux-intellectual personal is laughable. People are just too polite to laugh in his face.

13. While I'd love to know...
I have a "love" hate relationship with George Will. Over the 20 years I've been reading and listening to him he has said 2 (maybe 3) things I agree with.

Recently he wrote that Bush should admit there were never any WMD, apologize to the world and that the "bring democracy to the middle east" reason for going to war is bunk. He said the war against Iraq was not justified.

I'm anxious to see if he backtracks tomorrow.

On the other hand, Will probably does believe all the crap he spews 99% of the time. Makes him move honest than the rest but more mentally ill at the same time.

(The second time I agreed with him was an article he wrote on Fritz Hollings. The point was if you want to be a small government person you have to be willing to give up all the things that got you where you are today: the GI bill, VA mortgage, great educational system...etc. A rare moment of honesty about what government does right. BTW, I don't think he was advocating that the government should do those things, only if you complain about government you have to be willing to give up all those things. He apparently is.)

14. Honest 2 or 3 Times.
The hypocrisy of the wingnuts is at their core. He's the one who, when Jimmy CARTER's debate-preparation books somehow got in his hands, did not turn them over to authorities the way GORE's people did----------he looked inside. But I really do appreciate our Lib willingess to evaluate fairly.
