4. Sometimes folks repeat history on purpose, the bad parts.

8. I agree.
It's a huge loss. Even if we don't like what it stood for.

5. Don't You Start...
Besides, despite being President of the Confederate States of America, Davis really was a minor figure in the whole secession/slavery deal.

You had people like John C. Calhoun and George Fitzhugh fanning those flames for years. Now those two were a couple of wackos.

6. That's a shitty thing to say
I just got back from Gulfport/Biloxi and I read this shit.

The war is over. Get over it. Everything is fucking Gone With the Wind. Does that make you happy? That was a beautiful building and a part of history. Everything is destroyed down there and it was shattering to see it gone.

Do you know what it's like to see everything familiar in your life disappear? I hope not. It hurts.

12. I understand. Thank you
I'm sorry if I'm over-emotional on the subject. It's just there's nothing left on the Mississippi coast of historical value except for the Biloxi Lighthouse and the Friendship Oak. That's all in about a 30 mile stretch of beachfront. That and the Hurricane Camille Boat gift shop.

13. Good Lord, there's no need for you to apologize.
I was in Biloxi in the 1970s and found it a delightful place. I can imaging how shocking it must be to see it all gone.

I deserved the correction that your post issued to me. I have a strong sense of place, and should have know that my comment would be painful for people who lived in Biloxi.

10. Dancing in the rubble, eh?
Real classy. But not surprising at all.

For the record, there's very little else left in Biloxi, either.

15. A kind word for Biloxi....
Down around Biloxi
Pretty girls are swimming in the sea
Oh they look like sisters in the ocean
The boy will fill his pail with salted water
And the storms will blow from off towards New Orleans

The sun shines on Biloxi
The air is filled with vapors from the sea
And the boy will dig a pool beside the ocean
He sees creatures from a dream under the water
And the sun will set from off towards New Orleans

The stars can see Biloxi
The stars can find their faces in the sea
We are walking in the evening by the ocean
We are splashing naked in the water
And the sky is red from off towards New Orleans.
