Ultra Tin Foil MIHOP levee rumor
This was literally a neighbor telling me this. Someone who has never pushed politics to me at all. But she saw some of the anti-war bumper stickers on my car and told me that a friend of hers had a husband in the Florida National Guard who was stationed in Louisiana to help out. SHe claims the friend told her that the Florida NG was told to KNOCK DOWN levees early on, deliberately, to flood out the town on purpose. "They weren't going down fast enough and had to bring in heavy equipment." The economic motive is pretty clear (drive out poor blacks from valuable coastal real estate) and the relocation of them all over the country (many of them will never return) fits in with the theory.

I made her repeat it and it came out the same way. (If it matters, everyone in this story is white and my neighbor and I are well off financially. She's pretty apolitical and has never peddled, say, 9/11 theories or anything like that to me.)

I'm one of those who believe that the slow federal response comes from a sociopathic response from those at the top of federal government -- Bush and the rest. They don't give a shit, they didn't think anyone would give a shit, it wasn't an election year, therefore they didn't need to move any faster than they did. In other words, it's negligent manslaughter on mass scale, but not premeditated mass murder.

I have always had a hard time believing MIHOP on 9/11. Even LIHOP. I just think they're dumb and they don't give a shit, and it doesn't go any deeper than that.

This kind of rumor needs to be debunked fast. Can someone tell me this is bullshit, with solid reasoning (for instance, when was the Florida Guard sent in? Long long after the levees went?)? I really would like to believe that this is impossible, that even this fucked up band couldn't jump on the opportunity of the hurricane to do this.

If it is true...even slightly (orders/attempts to worsen existing breachs)... then....anyone got anything on that?

1. I'm guessing this was the deliberate breaking of levees to help DRAIN
the water from NO. That's my take on it...

15. NO
Not when everyone knows the levees hold the water back from the city.

21. No, they were talking about breaking them on CNN to help drainage!!
I'm an engineer and I can understand the logic of that - what are you basing your "NO" response on?

2. We need some dates here and exactly where it was done.
Because they did open the levees earlier this week to let the water flow out. And since they like to tell people nothing, the NG person may have the facts confused.

4. Part of levee repair op?
Floridapat, that sounds like a pretty sensible explanation...

This I really didn't want to believe. I hope we get a lot of solid, minute by minute, nail by nail details on this operation later...

3. I don't think it's true
I think aliens from outer space blasted the levee with a big laser gun.

And they are in cahoots with Bush himself!

5. My husband volunteered at the convention center last weekend
for a couple of shifts, and he said the belief that the levees were "blown up" is a widely held belief among the evacuees.

I don't think there's any basis for it, though.

6. I believe that our government
would blow up the levees and take out the 9th ward to save the higher class districts. BUT....the entire place is contaminated and will be for a long time. If the wealthy want to go reside there, then let them ;-)

9. Who said the wealthy would live there?
The hispanics imported by the elite to work in "New New Orleans" have to live somewhere.

it for 20 years or so and then Will it to their children who will definitely become rich...especially with the Estate Tax revoked.

8. ABC evening news this week had extended coverage
on one nite only our local station covered the 2nd 1/2 hour of the coverage. During it there were evacuees that had lived at the main break (9th parish?) that were living on a bridge i believe for many days, and were interviewed. They reported hearing loud explosions before the levee burst, and barely escaping with their lives. Their homes were completely destroyed, and it was their opinion it was intentional to keep more affluent areas from flooding. They cited the French Quarter as one area that was saved due to the levee break.

Now, this is only from my recollection, i haven't read a transcript/story with those details. If you search for it on ABC website, there may more info about it. When i reported here before with some details, it was quickly disputed, ie. the French Quarter part, how would it have been saved, or even threatened etc. I am not familiar with the city, nor its layout, so i have no idea if any of the citizen's reports above have any merit for accuracy. You'll have to look into it further yourself. Or not.

fwiw.

16. Last time I read this one person said breaking levees probably would
make a lot of noise. And someone else with explosive experienc said once you heard that kind of noise, it was hard to forget.

I don't understand how blowing up anything would save the rich sections of town. All the water would flow downhill to the poor sections regardless of where the levees broke. Anyone know where the rich and poor sections are?

33. what i thought it meant
was if the levee wasn't breached to relieve the rising waters in Lake Ponc, then the other neighborhoods would suffer from flooding.

again, i don't know the area, so can't add anything else.

I remember the nite i posted it, we were at level 3, so the info i was writing while watching the news, really didn't garnish any reply.

can't even find the thread now, it's deep in the archives at the rate posts come in now.

22. Your memory is correct. I think it was probably the barge hitting the
levee that caused the explosion they heard. The fact that they are so distrustful, really broke my heart. I was just recounting this story to someone today.

12. Levee suspected deliberately knocked down
It was a couple of days ago and I heard it on one of the MSM - probably MSNBC, but the reporter was standing at one of the levees in the city with a few residents. They said they definitely heard a very loud "boom" when the levee went. They were convinced it was deliberately blown because it would relieve water build-up of the affluent homes and flood out the lower lying poor homes. Sorry, sure wish I could remember what program I saw it. But haven't seen it again!

water, it would continue to rise with the flooding further up in the state. When was high tide that night?

18. About 9-11 though...
There are hundreds of dots, but you only need to connect a few to see the official story is bunk. LIPHOP, MIHOP, whatever - but I have no doubt the 9-11 commission was a cover-up, and that the real story is very different.

If you prefer a gentle introduction, read David Ray Griffin's "The New Pearl Harbor". He puts together a lot of (early) information - there's much more known now. He doesn't try to build a hypothesis about what happened, which is good IMO, since no-one can know that for sure except the perpetrators, but he does rip apart the official account.

Then try Michael C. Ruppert's "Crossing the Rubicon" - he does try to put together a scenario and he does place the blame with particular people, but the strongest part of his narrative is the motivation. You can also find his movie, "Truth and Lies of 9-11", downloadable on the net or buy it as a DVD - it's a recording of a lecture he gave in November 2001, where he had already connected the major dots. The means and motivation parts are excellent. He makes a point of using ONLY official documents, some public, others secret and declassified. He isn't interested in the "cute" conspiracy theories such as what hit the Pentagon or were the towers brought down by controlled demolition; he only looks at historical evidence and figures out WHY 9-11 happened and who profited from it in what ways.

Finally, read Webster Tarpley's "9/11 Synthetic Terror". It can't be summarized, or at least I'm not up to it. My head exploded and stayed that way.

32. Both the story, and the story about the story, sound highly fictional
The details you add about you and your neighbor's racial and financial profiles add nothing to either story's credibility. I would hope someone sensible enough to discount 9-11 MIHOP would think twice about spreading this rumor under the guise of trying to debunk it.
