2. Some of us are.
If you believe in this 'concept', advocate for it. Say it to everyone you know. Do your part in your corner of the world...in time it may spread.

3. Being one big happy family requires sharing on a massive scale.
Religions would have to get it together. Everyone could put all the big wig religious leaders in the Super Dome and wait until they came out in agreement that we could all love one another as in live amidst each other EQUALLY. Details could then be worked out.
I am not a Trekkie...to much...but I enjoyed it's distance from the day to day burdens of nationalism and sectarian identification. I think shows and ideas like that are a threat to central command. JFK and MLK were too scary for the big giant head that's for sure.
It just takes imagination and popular belief on a big enough scale that no matter who they assassinate the dream goes on.
All You Need Is Love. I still believe that.

8. That is precisely where I go,....
,...to escape the insanity of humanity.

There is no "reason" or "rationale" for such destructive divides among us. NONE.

7. Hey, we're doing our part. Our kids are a mixture of
predominant strains of Irish, American Indian, French, and African, with subtle undertones of Welsh and Portugese.

Can't get more "human race" than that.

11. *LOL* True, that!!! Our kids are also "mixed" in "ideas/perceptions".
The confusion FORCES them to think for themselves. The anchor of fundamental human morals will guide their choices.

13. Well, they can't have too many prejudices, anyway; they can't
insult very many ethnic groups without insulting themselves.

Our younger one was talking about "the brown kids" for a couple of days when he started Kindergarten, but stopped REAL quick when we explained that because of his Mamma's ethnicity, he was 25% "brown kid" himself.

14. I support the sentiment, but I never liked the use of race

to describe all of us. See definitions.

race1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rs)n.
1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.
2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race.
3. A genealogical line; a lineage.
4. Humans considered as a group.
5. Biology.
1. An interbreeding, usually geographically isolated population of organisms differing from other populations of the same species in the frequency of hereditary traits. A race that has been given formal taxonomic recognition is known as a subspecies.
2. A breed or strain, as of domestic animals.
6. A distinguishing or characteristic quality, such as the flavor of a wine.

15. Outdated definitions
There is only ONE race...the human one.

Skin color is as irrelevant as hair color.

DNA can tell where you've been travelling through the generations, but it identifies us all as human.

19. we're a species -- not a race.

My point was that race is the wrong word because race (for the most part) is often used as a synonym for subspecies.

Saying "human race" makes as much since as calling the entire group of humans a subspecies.

There is nothing outdated in using words correctly.

17. have occasionally filled out forms
Race: "human" instead of the expected answer. I'm sure it messes with someone's mind, or at least I hope it does. Last time I checked, I was still a member of Homo Sapiens Sapiens. All variations are merely pigmentation differences.

After all, no one talks about "races" of dogs or horses. Doberman or poodle, both are still dogs.

Let's....EVOLVE (are we allowed to do that anymore?)

I'm all for it!

21. I was called a racist for saying that.
It was one of my worst experiences on DU actually.
It almost made me "quit".

I was told that campaigning to quit using the scientifically innacurrate term of "race" was a way of denying that "racism" exists.
I was all but called a FReeper.

I cried.

So I've gone back to using "race", because I don't want to offend my fellow DUers.

22. We are one race.
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 11:17 AM by PsychoDad
Brothers and Sisters to each other, one family. We bear responsibility to each other when our brother or sister is in need. We all feel pain, gladness, love and hope.

I concur, I am human, and my brothers and sisters around the world are human. Skin should have no more meaning than eye color.

Perhaps one could say that we are the tribe of humanity.

23. Because that has often been used to ignore
The very real differences in opportunity, power, and culture that exist in our society. The "human race" sorta strangely always defaults to white.

24. That would be the thing to do but as long as we have eyes to see
then it's difficult to advocate it. Someone should photoshop a video of all the people at the Superdome but instead, make it mostly black faces and you have to wonder if the Bush administration would have taken so long to deliver food and water.
