3. There was a thing the other day about smugglers arrested in Kuwait
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 12:36 PM by undisclosedlocation
moving/trying to move chemical warheads from Iraq. It had been an AP story, but none of us could find it on the AP (hmm). Eventually found the story at Hindustan Times. Link on edit in a minute.

This link says that that story had been debunked already: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=468494
Not necessarily pertinent to the current story, of course, but knowing Fox News...

Further linkage momentarily

7. Hindustan times.
It appeared briefly in the hindustan times. Kuwaiti officials then clarified that they did not recover WMDs, but rather, Iraqi "artifacts" that were being smuggled into Kuwait. I don't have links.

The previous link said the same thing you did about the antiquities, and that the proof was in the LBN thread. This (link) is the LBN thread not locked as a dupe; I didn't see anything definitive there, but I was just scanning. Might be in one of the LBN threads locked as dupes.

Correction: See #24 on the linked thread linking in turn to a Reuters story about looted artifacts.

14. Report of vial of botulism bacteria.
Here's the link to "The Age." I've never seen this website before, and I contiunue to question the veracity of the report. The fact that FOX picked up on it leads me to believe that it is unsubstantiated propaganda.

4. Remember, Fox News viewers are the most uninformed
according to that study that was just released. This is a perfect example of why.

EDITED to add link

Well, they adhere to the Josef Goebbels school of journalism. So what do you expect?

The "WMDs" were ancient artifacts. The story was posted on LBN yesterday.

And you wonder why Fox is Wholly Without Merit?

6. When it absolutely, positively has to be there before the election...

You would think that if we can put a man on the moon we could have gotten a few tons of WMD to Iraq by April.

And now it's stuck in Kuwait. Stupid customs bureaucrats.

Haven't they ever heard of a diplomatic pouch?

27. I watch Fox news
You can not pretend Fox is not there, all of you must watch it once in a while. 2 reasons: you cannot badmouth the latest thing they do if you do not know what lies they are spreading, and in order to defeat one's enemy you must first know your enemy. Educate yourselves on the crazy right wing thinking. Borrow a copy of a right wing book, don't buy it because you will be supporting them though. Go to Barnes & Nobles and just read it there.

11. Jonah Goldberg made this claim
on CNN yesterday morning in the roundtable discussion with Donna Brazille and the comedian (I can't remember his name.) They have the roundtable segment where the last question is "Under the radar?" and each of the three give their nomination for the story. Goldberg said he wanted to know "what was going on" because the story appeared all over the web and then disappeared.

Guess he got FAUX to bite............

For weeks there have been news stories of weapons being "found" in Syria, Kuwait, Lebanon and Iraq. They are being put out by sources like World Tribune, Fox and Washington Times, and occasionally are then picked up by the mainstream press. Just the other day I woke up to a radio news story about the weapons in Lebanon on WGN radio. They cited the World Tribune as their source. World Tribune was probably equated to the Chicago Tribune in the minds of many listening that morning as the woke up.

They are counting on people just absorbing the info without checking it out. That is the way lies become fact.

The fact that this is happening so blatently, and is apparently having success in shaping public opinion, is very frightening.

(quoting from the infamous HindustaniTimes link)

One of the comments from the freeper board:

Al-Sabah was responding to a question about a report the paper carried on Wednesday that Kuwaiti security forces had foiled an attempt to smuggle artefacts, chemical materials and biological warheads from Iraq to a European country via Kuwait.
Kuwaiti security sources told Reuters on Wednesday the report on the seizure of such weapons was baseless.

25. On thier way to Iraq for "discovery" - no doubt....
Is this the same, or a related story to the Kuwait WMD smugglers the other day...?

It's almost like BushCo. got popped using local smugglers to sneak WMD into Iraq...and now this is a cover story.

Kuwait - don't we have a big operation in that country? The easiest way for BushCo. to sneak WMD in...

28. How do they know they are from Iraq if they are found in Kuwait?
I know, it's a simplistic and stupid question, but I need things spelled out for me. Of course, my husband spells them out by saying, "Honey, it's another fucking lie from Faux."
