Poll question: Religion Poll
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 01:36 PM by Terwilliger
(1)Under god I am combining all mystically grounded beliefs. I consider (rightly or wrongly) all beliefs where the prime mover is some otherworldly entity.

(2)no god or non-corporeal beings

(3)Agnosticism

(4)A theistic feeling where the beauty of the faith is enough to believe

(5)Evident

(6)Recall!

1. I wonder if being the first to vote for God...
is like a kick for my karma, or maybe a pre-paid ticket to paradise.

I could sure any help available, so God, take note..I'm behind ya, Big Guy/Girl/Other!

4. don't care.
I thought this was a big issue as I was pursuing a philosophy degree, then I realized it doesn't really matter.

5. Skewed poll: (3) is wildly misleading
"Maybe" is not an accurate summation of this; it makes one seem to be actively considering it, when most who'd call themselves agnostics are very much leaning toward non-existence. A more appropriate version would be "no proof either way, generally presuming non-existence".

Whether intended or not, the net effect of this poll is to skew toward more believers, therefore I'm voting (2), even though it's also unproven.

10. And then, further,
if you do believe in God, which (if any) religion do you feel most accurately describes God? I'd be interested to know the religious make-up of DU - how many Christians, Jews, Moslems, Buddhists, atheists, agnostics we have here. (Of course, we must also take account also of theists who nevertheless feel no established religion properly matches their own feeling).

15. This is just a god-ungod poll -- where are all the *real* options?
Polytheism

Animism

Pantheism and entheism (and various other world-soul and cosmic consciousness philosophies)

Non-theistic mysticism

Pragmatic occultism (the who-care-if-it's-real-as-long-as-the-ritual-works school)

And many more that are even less definable than those.

16. Yes, existence of God
I think the Kalam argument shows something exists separate from the universe as a causitive agent.

I call that something, God.
