today in class- a rant
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 11:16 PM by malletgirl02
I got really angry in class today, we were talking about heuristics, which are pretty much short cuts people use when making political decisions. During the discussion, this kid in my class who is an extreme Bush supporter first went on and on how Bush was "likable", and then went on to complain about people liking Edwards better than Cheney during the Vice Presidential debates. He made fun of Edward pretty much calling him an airhead. That wasn't what made me angry that was just annoying. What made me angry was he was complaining that the press was being to hard on Bush, by focusing on the the problems with the war in Iraq and Katrina. I seriously couldn't believe what he was saying, especially about Katrina, because it just happened, and of the many deaths and the overall destruction it caused. What made me angry about him complaining about the media focusing on Iraq is that it is first a very big deal, and secondly it is personal my dad is in Iraq. Some other kid complain about Iraq being compared to Vietnam, saying that it doesn't compare. That made me angry also because, even Vietnam wasn't vietnam in the when it first started, it lasted like 10 years right? We have no idea how long Iraq is going to last. I'm ashame to admit it, but I was really thinking that the first kid did not have a soul.
sorry for the rant. Also, although I have a low post count I'm not new just quiet

2. I am sorry that you had to listen to this person
who sounds as though he is what my husband calls a blowhard.

It is the media's responsibility to focus on the facts. If the facts show that the president isn't doing a good job, then it is not wrong for the president to be held accountable, whoever he/she is.

I remember Vietnam. The buildup began under President Lyndon Johnson, who helped get the Voting Rights Act passed. Until that time, most blacks were not allowed to vote in the South (fake literacy tests plus a fee, or poll tax, kept them from voting). President Lyndon Johnson also helped get Head Start and other excellent social programs passed. I very much approved of those achievements. But, unfortunately, I did not approve of the way he handled the Vietnam war, and the press and the public held him accountable.

Bush, who has done his best to undo what Johnson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt accomplished with our economy and social programs, should not get a pass on his failures in Iraq (Bush's War) and New Orleans.

3. No worries Re: post count. Glad you found a place to vent.
I'm just sorry that you had to listen to that drivel today.

The biggest national disaster in our history, and most all of the Administration remains on vacation *DAYS* into the disaster. Tens of thousands of Americans dying of thirst/starvation days into the tragedy, and the Federal Emergency MANAGEMENT Agency is learning of the suffering throngs through TV interviews.

Yeah, the media is just picking on W. Poor guy. Being President must be hard work.

5. Of course the media is hard on Bush
thousands of people have died during his presidency...directly due to his decisions.

That's their job.

Would this guy prefer to hear Hollywood gossip instead of real news?

Or just sports results?

Does he like living in a cave?

How is he ever going to cope with Life if he insists on hiding?

6. I'm sorry hon
 I hope your dad is okay in Iraq. You have every right to rant just like anybody else here does. Hope you post more. I don't get these people either and I can betcha a hundred bucks (that I don't have) that if this was Bill Clinton who was president or Kerry or Gore they would be critizing them like crazy but because Bush has an (r) after his name (even though he isn't a republican) he gets a pass. It really gets on my freakin nerves all the time.

8. Hey, welcome! :)
I wonder about some of these extreme right-wingers, too - soul, souless, or just an idiot? Sometimes, it's hard to tell... :)

Tell your dad thanks for his service to our country. I hope he stays safe and comes home soon. I hope they all come home soon... We need them here to protect us from the next natural disaster that Bush bungles! :) :pals:
