two things have become crystal clear in the past two weeks . . .
first, FEMA's reaction to the disaster is not incompeteant; it is planned negligence . . . pick whatever reason you wish, the fact is that FEMA is INTENTIONALLY screwing up at every opportunity . . . it's as if they're TRYING to get the American public pissed off at government . . .

why would they want people pissed off at government? . . . well, it's a well-known fact that neocons do not like government programs that don't involve war and the expansion of American influence and control across the planet . . . government, to them, is something that serves the upper class and its corporate sponsors, NOT the general populace . . . by getting people pissed off at government, they can further their agenda by doing things like abolishing FEMA altogether, instituting martial law in selected areas, and pushing through Social Security "reforms" while no one's looking . . . not to mention stacking the Supreme Court in a way that will negatively impact the nation for decades to come . . . in short, the more they can get people to hate government, the more successful they are . . .

second, it's clear that this country's (and possibly the planet's) salvation (if it's even possible) demands the removal of the entire Bush administration, and soon . . . their purpose is to destroy the federal government (except for war-making capabilities), and they are succeeding . . . 90% of Americans would NOT support this objective if it were presented to them . . . the longer BushCo remains in control, the harder it will be to stop and try to reverse (or at least stem) the damage they are doing . . .

Bush and Cheney must be impeached, their entire administration must be removed, and a new government must be elected and installed -- and well before 2008 . . . by then it will simly be too late . . .

the case against BushCo is there, with all the evidence needed to convict . . . someone is going to have to sit down and pull it all together in a concise document that demonstrates -- convincingly, and in a manner that most American can easily understand -- the illegal, unethical, and immoral actions that BushCo has (and continues to be) engaged in . . .

simultaneously, the impeachment germ must be planted immediately, and all elements of the left and the center must be brought into a coalition to get rid of the Bush administration once and for all . . . our survival quite literally depends on

1. The problem is there were upper class impacted by this disaster
While they might have gotten out, they have damage too! They will know of people who didn't make it. The neocons, thought they had control of everything, and then something they couldn't control, will be the force to bring them down!

2. Interesting................
When it formed, the Dep. of Homeland Sec. undoubtedly made its original organizations into shells of their former selves. It also solidified their direct control by the executive...... I'd say that todays govt. agencies are not desigined to fail as much as they are to just simply do nothing. Take the Food and Drug Admin. for example, their current trend is to let every new drug pass. Bush apoints officials not on qualifications, but based upon loyalty. This is an atempt to kill the "whistleblower" the rogue government official. The Republicans are "Starving the Beast" with their tax cuts, thus leaving government agencies very weak. A competent oficial would become angry that his department is underfunded, eventualy going to the press. The result is Michael Brown....and ultimately the Katrina response failure.

We must be very vocal in these areas, comming up very soon Congress will attempt to repeal the ESTATE TAX, which will further their efforts to starve the beast. They will probablly try to sneak it in amidst the outrage to the Katrina response. We must demand that it is not repealed. We must also demand that there be legeslation, or a constitutional amendment banning appointments to offices based solely on political purposes. There should be requirements that officials have at least 5 years experience in their field, perhaps more...

3. OneBlueSky your post is thought provoking and hard to swallow
at the same time. It's so hard to think about them making it worse on purpose, yet they seem to be doing just that. I agree with the your second issue absolutely. I am still chewing on the first. I won't rule it out.

6. The reason they got away with it for so long is I can't tell you
where the mantra "Trust the government", got into my head, but it did. It wasn't just me, but most of the people I know (from a very Repub. area) did TRUST the government, who has reared it's ugly head, they are waking up every day and will demand more.

You can't take generations, who bought the TRUST the gov't. line and then allow something like this to happen. The 2006 mid-terms are going to be very interesting,

5. Planned negligence, indeed.
Treasonous traitors. These evil, maniacal monsters are not Americans. They must go. Immediately.

Peace.
