I'm hearing a lot of repenting from them.

My girlfriend's mother invited us out to dinner tonight, and although she, apparently begrudgingly, voted for Kerry in the election (after talking such trash about him like "He wouldn't have responded to 9/11"), she seems to be coming over to our side. The first thing she did when we sat down was pull out that National Geographic article from last year predicting the New Orleans scenario. We talked with her about our trip to Crawford. She seems to be learning quite a bit.

And just now, if you were listening to Bernie Ward you heard a lifelong Republican woman calling in and expressing her disgust with Bush and his administration. She seemed hesitant- as did my girlfriend's mother- but she was quite clearly upset. And ashamed.

And then all of the stories we've been hearing on DU. I really think they're breaking.

Very much so after 911.

The swing of mood shows that many are viewing the NOLA citizens as Americans, regardless of color. They don't like the way Bush treat American citizens on US soil AND there is a certain amount of pride involved as well. To be offered help from Cuba and Iran must have struck a chord somewhere ;-)

7. I know republicans who are regretting their votes over this

They're watching how the rest of the republicans respond to the situation very closely. To me this is much more important than their turning from bush. If they can honestly see how deep the corruption in their party goes we have a shot at taking our country back.

If nothing else, I think we're at the end of the "it's unpatriotic not to support your president" phase.
