AFP: Katrina "refugees" get hundreds of millions of dollars "in handouts "
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 06:32 AM by Truth Hurts A Lot
First of all, hasn't AFP received the damn memo yet about the word "refugee" being unacceptable?

Can the media be anymore transparent at this time? Was the word "handouts" used in reference to 911 victim compensation packages? What the hell is going on? Why is the media using so many right wing "code words" to describe the mostly Black Katrina victims?

I'm sure they will change their headline shortly.

1. I work with a woman
, white, who told me yesterday that it, "drives her crazy" that some people might be dishonestly getting the $2000!

So, dead bodies lying around being eaten by animals. Check.

Babies dying. Check.

Old people dying. Check.

Mismanagement of FEMA. Check.

Underfunding America's infrastructure that caused this to be a big problem and caused all of the above. Check.

But what drives her crazy is someone perhaps fraudulently getting $2000.00.

We're doomed folks. This is America.

2. They really need to get off of their butts and get a job.
Oh wait, they haven't any transportation. Nor a home. Nor clean clothes. Some of these news people are so insensitive.

4. What if one of those people aren't Katrina victims
and gets the $2,000 handout? I mean just imagine standing in lines for hours on end in the hopes of getting $2,000 for a family of four. Wow, that could mean they could buy maybe a car, a very old and used car. We need to institute firm controls on these "Handouts" before other poor people start to think they can get money for free like the rich. :sarcasm:

5. What about Haliburton's handouts?

Or more specifically the one clean got to clean up after Katrina while our government is turning away clean water, doctors, nurses, money, and people experienced in dealing with natural disasters.

6. Don't you know? Handouts in the Bush administration...
... are reserved for campaign boosters in the form of federal jobs paying in the six figures and tax breaks for the rich. Not to mention the doling out of Ambassadorships and the no-bid contracts awarded to KBR and Halliburton. Then, of course, there's the Congressional pork served up to the likes of a Ted Stevens of Alaska, who got a handout of 231 million federal tax dollars to build a bridge to nowhere.

It's all a matter of semantics, don't you see? Money for the poor, for food or an education, is deemed a "handout". Conversely, monies divvied up among the rich are labeled "awards", "promotions", and "apppointments" -- no experience necessary.

7. And yet...
It's now being reported the FEMA victims have to sign a waiver to not ask for anymore help from the govt if they take the $2000.
