but they have a legitimate beef.

the Hijras are a special caste and really the only wya they make money is buy visiting weddings and offering blessings to children.

they pay a horrific price for this "honor" (many are not voluntarily castrated), and for soemone who hasn't paid the price to literally take the food from their mouth, is definitely unfair.


i'm not sure about going around and pulling up men's saris to verify their status tho.

but they do sort of adopt young boys in.

the sad thing is that sometimes the poos will "sell" their sons off to those who would castrate them and force them to become Hijra.

For the people who are alreayd hijra - it's no different than drag queens and prostitutes in the US - they make money for the same reasons. (well maybe not the same reasons as people saving up for their operations).

for the people who would sell their kids - well there are people who would and have sold their kids regardless of gender into slavery, prositution, hired help, all sorts of things. Don't undereastimate the logic that would make someone desperately poor (or perhaps better yet, desperately in need of money)do things that they do.

As for how it sits on their conscience - i have no idea. I can't comprehend that part.
