We know that Bush cut funding to keep the levee in repair. But that's the tip of this iceberg. And we haven't seen the rest yet. They can suppress the truth. They can manipulate the news. The idea of this President heading up any investigation of his own Administration is absurd, bordering on obscene.

There have been massive failures within the Federal Government not only in response to the disaster after the fact, but in the days leading up to it when all the warnings and official requests for assistance were going out, including the warning of the National Weather Service, and Louisiana Gov. Blanco's request for assistance.

The failures Begin and End with Bush, with a significant number of actors in between. It was his responsibility to cut through the bureaucracy to safeguard American lives, and he either negligently or willfully dropped the ball.

Only an Independent Commission with full subpoena powers and that can and will operate in an atmosphere where the Administration does not hide the truth behind a wall of executive privilege will be effective here.

Anything else is useless, and a Bush-led "investigation" will be nothing more than a blatant cover-up.

America deserves, nay DEMANDS the truth!
