Dallas city mayor taking over relief/aid for NO citizens
Is anyone watching www.WDSU.com right now? Mayor Nagin and Dallas Mayor Laura Miller (I think?) are talking about fed gov. lack of response. She is heading the effort to get the NO'ers out of the shelter and into apartments by 9 days.

2. She said they've been getting little to no help from gov't, can't wait
any longer. She already is collecting money from citizens of Dallas and the goal is to get families off of cots and out of the shelters and into apartments with furniture, dishes, etc. Going to have a big New Orleans style party on the 10th day (next Sunday I believe), going to have music, dancing etc. Mayor Nagin said this, said he's so thankful that someone is looking out for his citizens, first sounds of hope from him (he is really thanful).

4. You guys are right, they should be rewarded, and it is about time..
Amazing what you can do when you use your brains and all resources available to you. I also wanted to add that Dallas was getting some good people, they can't keep them forever though, said people don't know how good the people of New Orleans are because the focus was on the looters.
It's over now. So nice to see positive news and action being taken like that!

8. She's come up with a solution that benefits the citizens of her city
and some of Mayor Nagin's. The people of New Orleans have said many times they want to get on with their lives, I'm pretty sure living on a cot with no privacy and keeping the city of Dallas from going about their business is not their idea of getting on with their lives. This is a win/win.

9. may be...........but
my point is that as we have seen now, in the past and surely will again, the action heats up mostly when it is the rich white folks (I'm white btw) or their interests that are threatened. It's a sad state.

10. They have football games in the Reunion Arena?
I wasn't aware of that. I thought it was just hockey and basketball.

especially among poor blacks. She's not very popular in Dallas these days. But I'm glad she's doing it, whatever her reasons.

7. OK, one thing to add to that.
The City of Dallas wants to empty the convention center because there are a lot of conventions that were booked in NO that need a place to meet. They want all the evacuees cleared out ASAP so they can bring the conventions here. So it's not completely altruistic, but still I do commend the City of Dallas for their generous response.
