Bush is NOW BLAMING THE MEDIA
In the Press Conference today,

Scott McClellen just said when asked what Bush meant by "No one expected the levees to break" that "Bush was referring to the news stories that reported N.O. had dodged a bullete and the city was ok because no levees broke. That's what Bush was referring to when he made that comment..." <quote not exact>

But the levees BROKE DURING THE STORM... the flooding began during teh storm...

Their telling me Bush's only source of information was the NEWS?!?!?!

I thought Bush didn't listen to /read the NEWS?

Although I'm surprised they haven't tried to blame Bill.

5. English Professor to the rescue
In my experience, the expression "no one" means "nobody," or "not one person," or "no single sentient being in the entire fucking universe." It does NOT mean "none of the Fox News paid Republican party ass-lickers."

9. This is THE talking point -- courtesy of "Brownie" and Chertoff
They have ALL trial-launched the "media reported N.O. dodged a bullet, so it's not our fault" meme -- Brownie and Chertoff got beaten like pinatas by the media for even attempting it.

Desperate they are.

Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 12:05 PM by redqueen
Elected officials don't get disaster-related information from news... they get it from NOAA and other experts.

So much bullshit... can the dumbass bootlicking bush-lovers really buy all this spew? Seriously?

12. Talking Points...
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 12:06 PM by madame defarge
Al Franken just did a piece on this about 45 minutes ago..."Who got the memo?" The talking points by Chertoff, Gen. Myers, et al said "ALL the headlines said that 'N.O. dodged a bullet...'" Franken did the research and found that a right wing news site (I can't remember the name) had that headline as did the Grenada newspaper. All other newspapers across the US told the real story.

So apparently, Scotty got the memo...

ON edit: just found this DU posting with the website I was referring to:

23. Oh, but it gets better...
It is bad enough that they seem to have gotten all their info from a news source, possibly not even a great one, but even worse is that they must have ONLY READ THEY HEADLINE because the second paragraph says this-

"Katrina, which hit land this morning with winds in excess of 145 miles an hour, has caused a number of levees to break in New Orleans, leading authorities to fret over the POTENTIAL FOR WIDESPREAD FLOODING, though, at the same time, popular areas of the city such as the French Quarter are free from rising water for the time being." (emphasis mine)

amazing. truly.

14. Oh, that pesky little thing called interpretation.
One thing that could bite them in the ass with this statement though is that they were saying that they were in contact with people in the affected areas. Which people? Who?

Did these people in the affected areas also tell the FEMA folks about the Superdome and Convention Center crowds as well? Before FEMA claimed they knew about it?

21. "no one expected" is the key
Everyone expected- and had he said, we did not expect it that late maybe it would have passed muster.

but, still it was raining after the full strom passed and isn't that when the levee's broke?

This was thier gambit at seperating out the storm from the flood.

27. So far, NOBODY has actually shown anyone a paper in which
the headline mentioned New Orleans dodging a bullet. Al Franken was able to locate one from GRANADA, but somehow I doubt that Chertoff and his cronies were reading the Granada Times on Tuesday morning.

Every paper I've looked at from that morning screams DISASTER, CATASTROPHE, etc.

There was NO NEWS STORY about New Orleans "dodging a bullet." It never happened.
