Breaking it down
Help me to understand.......

State and local officials are first responders.....and we now know that state and local officials oversaw the evacuation of somewhere around 80 percent of New Orleans.

That is pretty impressive considering the conditions they had to work under. But, who was in charge of the refugees? Who was in charge of food, water and medical aid of the displaced? Who priorized the evacuation process - an example would be Mercy Hospital? Is that state and local, or FEMA?

It is apparent that state and locals did not abandon their duties, or else there would be far more that were not evacuated - although it certainly should of been done better.....

The real questions remain - why did it take the feds 6 days to mobilize? Why didn't Bush authorize Northern Command into action until Thursday?

1. Exactly, same thing I posted over in another thread a few moments ago
Though w/ less detail.

A low body count shows the evacuation was successful. Dehydrating, starving people for days, at the Superdome & CC, is a total blunder by FEMA.
