Kyra Phillips showing yesterday's Nancy Pelosi interview on CNN now
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 01:28 PM by VolcanoJen
I wonder what she's up to... why is she replaying one of her worst moments?

ETA: She's reading some of the "hundreds" of letters she received after the interview. She started with one that slammed Pelosi, written by a supposed "liberal."

Wow, but some of these letters are rough, including some telling CNN to fire Kyra... good job, DUers!

5. Ya know, Kyra Phillips was just looking for her Anderson Cooper moment.
That's really the way I read that interview yesterday.

Half the whore media is looking for their Anderson moment. It's reaching, it's showboating, it's unnecessary, and it's despicable.

58. From Dailykos
Good-bye Kyra, Goodbye CNN
by PAprogressive
Fri Sep 9th, 2005 at 11:42:59 PDT
Kyra Phillips, the White House toady who berated Nancy Pelosi online and inserted her own personal opinion during the interview, was just on reviewing the controversy.

After running a clip of the controversy she began reading some of the emails. One, from a Marina, (I believe from New Paltz, N.Y.) said CNN should get rid of Kyra or lose her as a viewer.

Kyra's terse response: Goodbye Marina.

<http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/9/144259/9647>

I sent my email to CNN, not to her.

Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 03:23 PM by Kurovski
She is far more suited to an edgy entertainment gossip show.

She hasn't the temperament for serious news. FOX might want to pick her up.

Like FEMA's Brownie, Ms. Philips is another person ill-suited to the job, nevertheless getting some on-the-job training.

10. Here's what I wrote last night...
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 01:39 PM by targetpractice
I didn't get on air, but I'm glad enough of us wrote to cause her to respond...

Dear CNN ,

I want to commend CNN on its top-notch coverage of hurricane Katrina. Since the storm struck, I've been glued to cable TV news and have turned to CNN first because I consider the reporting to be riveting and honest. Specifically, Anderson Cooper, Jack Cafferty, Christianne Amanpour have realized that THE STORY to report is the horror of the federal government's lazy response to the disaster. I completely TRUST them as much as I would my own eyes and ears on the scene. Even Wolf Blitzer today honestly conceded the truth on air when he corrected himself by saying, "...Bush's supposedly delayed response, or I should say it's been established that his response was actually delayed..."

However, during the afternoon hours I find myself turning away from CNN to MSNBC whenever Kyra Phillips hits the airwaves. Her obsessive and off-putting harping early on about the New Orleans' "looter" problem demonstrated a detachment from reality that was unbearable to me as a viewer. Today <9/08/2005> her rambling/ranting interview with Nancy Pelosi angered me so much I had to write a comment tonight. Kyra was not being merely a devil's advocate when she went on an absurd, straw-grabbing defense of the Bush administration's mismanagement of Katrina relief. I'm not accusing her of being partisan, but Kyra's interview (or quasi-monologue) exposed her as a journalist unable to judge the difference between trying to appear unbiased vs. facing facts that that are intuitively obvious to the casual viewer. Her defense of the Bush administration was over the top and disturbing. I think she was trying to sincerely highlight different perspectives, but frankly, she appeared clueless. Thankfully, Nancy Pelosi wisely asked Kyra to "settle down" and focus on what's important and obvious to your viewers. People from New Orleans are still dying... that is an indefensible situation.

Maybe Kyra should spend some time watching and taking notes of CNN's excellent coverage before and after her on-air shifts. Or better yet, maybe Kyra could be assigned to relieve Anderson Cooper in the field for a few days to gain some needed perspective that would better serve your viewers when she speaks to them about Katrina in the future.

Sincerely,
Me

23. CNN is in the midst of redefining itself. Jon Stewart
started it. Katrina is continuing the process. Kyra has to ask tough questions but she did it in a way that displayed really rusty "journalistic" skills. It is right to question both parties on their votes for certain pork in place of infrastructure. Kyra just was not ready for the rumble and Nancy came prepared this time.

Kyra's biggest challenge in the last year has been what color should my hair be this week. Hurricane Katrina swept away some media inhibitions and relationship and reputation with viewers. CNN is trying to repair their broken relationship with the public. The viewers are responding and they noticed the bottom line improves if they get viewers. The sad part, really sad part is that it took katrina for them to understand the public wants the truth. Not regurgitation of bush administration talking points.

Dear CNN and Kyra Phillips ,

I want to praise CNN on its great coverage of hurricane Katrina, especially, Anderson Cooper, Christianne Amanpour, Aaron Brown, and Jack Cafferty. They have keep me glued to CNN.

That said I was stunned by Kyra Phillips interview with Nancy Pelosi. Her defense of the Bush administration was so over the top, that I literally thought I was watching Fox news instead of CNN. From this so called interview it is abundantly clear she is more suited for soft stories and NOT hard news as she is unable to keep her personal political views to herself. Because of her I will now be watching MSNBC during her shift.

There is nothing wrong with asking hard questions. But forgive me if I am a bit skeptical. Where were the hard questions for this administration over the past 5 years? You want to start holding our representatives feet to the fire, well that's just dandy. But that had better apply to George Bush and the rest of the Republicans as well as the Democrats.

Also, please don't yell over the person you are interviewing. It is unprofessional and displays a lack of objectivity, regardless the party affiliation of the interviewee.

57. my email to Ms Phillips!
Ms. Phillips,

I watched your show yesterday and your interview of the Honorable Nancy Pelosi.

I am 100% for journalists holding our representatives feet to the fire. However Ms Phillips, you are no Journalist!

What I saw yesterday was disgusting! It was a display of arrogance on your part, and ignorance!

I feel you should be fired immediately!! You not only injected yourself in on the story, you screamed over an elected official, you were rude and you were incorrect! You lied!

Now if you want to tell us you were in the room with the President and the Honorable Nancy Pelosi and you have proof of what was said other than the principles who were there..then bring it on darlin!!!

But since you were not in that room, nor was the person you were quoting to the very person who was in that room ...you have become a shill for a political party and you have no business in the media!! Unless you go work for Fox , that has nothing but shills for a political party!

Furthermore, I called while you were on the air, and I was cut off by CNN when I began my comments to a man at CNN. I was never so disgusted in any broadcast i had ever seen in my 54 years!

At the time I called, I had a reporter sitting at my kitchen table, she could not believe I was hung up on, for giving a negative comment on your disgusting display.

The reporter then called the same number I did and was also hung up on!

This will go into a northeastern newspaper where I live! ( by the way, this was a REAL journalist!)

I turned CNN off my televisions over a year ago , and had CNN on child block in my home , as I have been sick and tired of the Fox like propaganda that CNN stooped to, however since this hurricane I took the block off and I must say I have been impressed with CNN 's coverage, and the wonderful reporting of Anderson Cooper, Arron Brown, Jack Mc Cafferty.

However, you Ms. Phillips have turned me off once again, CNN will go back on child block in my home until you and Blitzer are fired.

I cannot stomach you nor Blitzer's pandering and lying and I do not want my blood pressure, from liars, to elevate!

Get a new job! Journalist you are not, Bush shill yes, that is what you are and worse, but I am too much a lady to print what I really think of you!

CNN PLEASE fire this young So called Lady, she has no business in the "NEWS" BUSINESS!

A lobbyist for Bush yes, News no, Ms PHillips does not deserve to hold up my Constitution and the 4th estate!

Sincerely ,
xxxxxxx

I was watching once a couple years ago or so, and she was interviewing someone on the phone, live on air.

And I was laughing my ass off when the person on the phone name-dropped Howard Stern, called her a bitch, and hung up. All live on CNN. She had a total look of disgust on her face.
