Media blast needed for the citizens of Moss Point, Mississippi!
Merh says: "Moss Point Mississippi is being neglected - it has no FEMA or Red Cross - it is predominately black community -- they need help" The City is north of Pascagoula (Trent Lott's constituents) and these people are in DIRE need. The Escatawpa River flooded due to the storm and folks homes were flooded! They have received no help from FEMA or The Red Cross! Considering this is day 11 after the storm...we have to get them some help. Now! I'm hoping you'll help me blast the word out. Please! Help me help the people of Moss Point!!! They need us to be their voices.

Peace.

and know folks with families there - they are in need of help and have been overlooked and foresaken!

DAMN IT - it is the town just north of Pascagoula, Trent Lott's hometown, they need help - they need FEMA and the Red Cross.

27. They may have gotten SOME help last Saturday
A small group of volunteers from Paducah arrived in Moss Point, Mississippi on Saturday. Melanie Rogers, one of eight volunteers working out of Forts Lake Assembly of God Church in Moss Point, said the western Kentuckians were the first outsiders to visit the ruined town since the hurricane hit.

28. Maybe this is why response is slow... alligator farm!
MOSS POINT, Miss. Watch out for Big Bull. He and all his friends are on the prowl.
The 25-year-old male alligator was among the escapees from the Gulf Coast Gator Ranch and Tours in Moss Point, Mississippi. Hurricane Katrina flooded the enclosures at the gator ranch, freeing nearly 200 alligators into a nearby swamp.

Big Bull is more than 15 feet long and he could be running with his buddies, Whitey, a near-albino alligator, and another named One Eye Willie.

Before Katrina, an eight-foot-high wire fence surrounded the alligators' water-filled homes, but Katrina's storm surge flooded the pens, allowing the alligators to escape.

She is a Major there. She has forwarded the message that Moss Point needs help to the Post commander who is now speaking to the FEMA people who are staging out of there. I will try to follow up as soon as I can get through again.

43. NEWS: Richmond VA to adopt Moss Point, Missisippi (AP)
I know it's not FEMA or the Red Cross, but thank God for somebody...

Richmond "adopts" Mississippi town
By the Associated Press
September 10, 2005
RICHMOND, Va. -- The city of Richmond is "adopting" the town of Moss Point, Miss., which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina's 18-foot storm surge.

"Tremendous attention has been focused on the city of New Orleans, and rightfully so, but there are countless other communities that require urgent attention and assistance," Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder said.

City Hall will help provide financial assistance, food, clothing and medicine. Richmond is arranging a recovery fund and is looking into what public funds it could provide.

Dr. James Cisek, a medical director at Bon Secours Health Systems Inc., planned to head to Moss Point to assess any medical needs.

"We are drawing upon all of the available resources at our disposal to get our lives back on track," Moss Point Mayor Xavier Bishop said. "Given the magnitude of that endeavor, it really benefits us to have Richmond step forward to assist in that process."

44. News: Churches Sending Convoy Of Aid (to Moss Point area)
and a little more help from churches in Florida...

"Victory Church in Lakeland, which is affiliated with the Assemblies of God, has entered into a partnership with two churches in Moss Point and Pascagoula, Miss., to temporarily pay the salaries of those churches' pastors, said the Rev. Wayne Blackburn, Victory's senior pastor. Two eight-man teams from the church went to the area last week to help with cleanup efforts. The church also sent enough funds to the Assembly of God's Convoy of Hope program to dispatch about 100 tractor-trailer loads of water, food and ice, Blackburn said."
