Honore: No embed reporters allowed in recovery operation.
C'mon, there must be a way to both have respect for the dead and have a reporter there.

8. Methinks the body count is going to be a might low
betcha there will be a lot of "missing victims" and a lot of "midnight burials".

10. Exactly ---- they don't do civilian body counts in Iraq, either
What a coincidence.

3. I agree with him I don't think they should be televised either.
If you have ever seen a body that has been in water for 5-10 days, or even just dead in 90+ heat and humidity, you'll understand why I say that!

5. Would you want to be informed of a loved one's death by seeing them
pull the body out of the house on CNN?

What you don't have a heart?

26. I'm not the only one who "appears to know"----it's a cover-up
I'm sorry that there really aren't any heroes in this horror except ordinary people like the kid who stole the school bus or the guys from Duke.

on the news?

I don't know. I think I'd wanna know first before seeing them pull a body out of my house.

25. I would agree to that as long as they weren't allowed to file stories
after the families were notified.

But you know. I don't think they would hold their stories.

13. Good points both (posts #3 and #4). I think it's a hard call.
I guess I just don't want the nation to forget what a horrific tragedy this is. Having a reporter present doesn't necessarily mean having a camera there. Just an independent witness to the events.

6. He mentioned a web site with photos of the dead
He wished it would be taken down.

He strikes me as a no-nonsense kind of guy with no love for the press. He's old school military and completely professional.

I like and respect him.

embeds but their job was as journalists? The press sets itself up to be ridiculed.

14. For those who want to see pictures of the dead
Then you might want to take a look at this website with pictures of the people we've killed in Iraq. If you can handle these images and if you think the survivors of this disaster can handle pictures like this of their loved ones being broadcast on National TV then fine, but bring a very strong stomach with you first.

19. That that is a different matter entirely
and needs to be addressed.

Keep in mind that people are going to notice when they can't find grandma or Uncle Joe or their neighbor who lived next door for 30 years. The truth of how many actually died will be very hard to hide when this all shakes out.

17. then tell the loved ones not to look
but i want every GOP voter to look. i want the Clockwork Orange technique used on them till they vomit.

and then i want them shown footage of victim's pets being shot.

censorship of this type is not acceptable. yet the media will roll over again.

Never look at TV again while they hang out in shelters with nothing else to do?

28. i am real
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 08:13 PM by maxsolomon
we're talking about incredibly long odds of

#1. a person watching the specific channel at the specific moment that it shows a dead relative's body.
#2. that body being recognizable. the MSM is really really good at editing & censoring everything else, why couldn't a digital blur be put over the faces of the dead, or shoot them from an angle that does not identify?
#3. the person being offended by seeing that relative's body, rather than overcome with grief, or relief at finally knowing. it is not a foregone conclusion that they would be angry.

versus

shoving their hypocrisy back in the face of every uncaring, selfish bush voter who'd rather not be reminded of the consequences of their votes over the last 25 years. just like i want dead iraqis, maimed iraqi children, & dead american soldiers on tv. it will turn the public against the administration, and the GOP. just like it did in vietnam.

the truth hurts. i want it to hurt america. not looking doesn't make it any less true. and not looking & approving makes you culpable.

15. I have to say I am really torn on this one...
On the one hand, I would not want to see my loved one's dead body on television or in the papers so, to me that point is valid.

On the other hand, what's to say this move isn't to try and hide the actual number of dead to help protect bush's butt and my trust factor is below nil at this point.

I did watch the press conference with the Vice Admiral and got a sense of a person, finally, with the skills and leadership to actually do the job on the ground in NO but only time will tell if he is a figurehead or a real can-do guy.

I have no doubt this post is as confusing as I am confused, lol.
