Question Re: Roberts and Katrina
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 03:18 PM by smartvoter
Okay, help me understand what is wrong with pointing out that Roberts is one of "their guys" with only two years of experience as a judge and we can see right now, live on TV, what happens when unqualified cronies are put in charge of vital organizations.

I'm serious about this. I know the MoveOn thing was a lie, and I do not advocate exploiting tragedy, but it appears that New Orleans is a tangible case for putting qualified people in positions of power.

1. I think that's an excellent comparison.
There is nothing wrong with suggesting it, even though he is a judge, it's customary to have a record when entering the SC. He has none.

2. Will anyone say it? I think they'll be afraid of looking like exploiters
when, in fact, it is highly relevant.

3. It may happen eventually.
A lot of what's said hinges on timing. We'll see if any of our leaders are astute enough to bring this up.

4. The thing is Roberts IS qualified...
We may not agree with him ideologically but I don't think you can really say that he isn't qualified'

He got top ranks from ABA, was summa cum laude at Harvard Law, worked on the Harvard Law review, argued almost 40 cases in front of the court winning a majority, he even clerked for Rehnquist. He also was an appeals judge for those 2 years.

Brown had ZERO experience or qualifications for the position. While the disgusting cronyism resulting in incompetence should be talked about loudly and often, I'm not sure you can make it stick with Roberts.
