Need help with * response to Katrina SOE
Need help please - the guy I am emailing back and forth says * granted the request the same day. Is this right? I thought he was MIA??

I want to email back with info on *'s lack of action, but this makes it look like he actuall did something.

On Sat. Sept 27, the Governor of Louisiana sent a transmittal to President Bush through FEMA asking that Louisiana be declared in a state of emergency. This was 2 days before the storm hit. You can read it here:

On that same day, President Bush responded and granted her request. This is the legal authorization that triggers a federal response and puts FEMA in charge. You can read it here:

1. Thats correct
Bush put FEMA in charge of ALL emergency response measures on Aug 28th.

2. Recent thread here claimed the Governor acted on Aug 26th.
They had links to alleged proof; sorry I didn't bookmark it.

GOVERNOR BLANCO DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY

BATON ROUGE, LA--Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco today issued Proclamation No. 48 KBB 2005, declaring a state of emergency for the state Louisiana as Hurricane Katrina poses an imminent threat, carrying severe storms, high winds, and torrential rain that may cause flooding and damage to private property and public facilities, and threaten the safety and security of the citizens of the state of Louisiana The state of emergency extends from Friday, August 26, 2005, through Sunday, September 25, 2005, unless terminated sooner.
