An open letter to Mayor Nagin regarding rescuing pets in NO
Dear Mayor Nagin:
There have been reports of trucks and cars carrying supplies for animal rescues not being allowed into the city.

Mayor Nagin, you have the opportunity here to bring great joy to families who have lost almost everything: if their pet is saved, they will regain some of what they have lost.

Please Mayor Nagin, let in animal rescuers and the supplies they need. Other parrishes which had as much if not more flooding than New Orleans are allowing residents back in. Why can't New Orleans allow people in who need to rescue their pets (as well as people who are rescuing others' pets).

Also, if each National Guardsman rescued just one or two pets, and brought them back to wherever they sleep, the animal rescue agencies could arrange to take the animals. This would help immensely, given the number of National Guards troops in New Orleans.

Mayor Nagin, you have a chance to be a hero to many here; please take the necessary steps to facilitate rescuing animals.

1. Very good!
The people affected by Katrina have lost so much and those in NOLA have lost everything. Being reunited with their lost pet would bring them hope for the future and let them know that they are not forgotten.

7. I posted to LBN / n/t Hopefully these events are isolated.
Bestfriends.org has a call out for help in rescuing animals. There are only 2--3 boats out rescuing. If you can help, do!! Blast the media: if the boats which had been rescuing humans can help rescue animals (now that the human rescue operation is wrapping up), it would really help. Animals can be taken to the shelters listed at
www.vetmed.lsu.edu , or turned over to animal rescue organizations in the area.

as ID'd on the video. Maybe he's an individual who can be shamed into stopping by media coverage.
