What kind of permits do protests require in other cities...
Here in vegas we need a $1M bond to insure the LVMPD (Las Vegas Police) and apparently a $700 sound permit. Is this kind of thing normal? Not too much activism above ground here in Vegas so we're kind of in the dark. (We is LVPeaceNow www.lvpeacenow.org). We are planning a sister event on the 24th here so we need to get our ducks in a row. Any info you have would be great. Thanks!

1. A lot (lot, lot) tougher than here in Austin!
It seems to be fairly easy here. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/police/parade.htm

3. It's really sad.. protests are supposed to be spontaneous and overwhelming
That's what made the 60's & 70's protests successful.. the "powers that be" did not know where or how many ...the movement overwhelmed the local authorities and until Kent State and Chicago 68, they were pretty effective in getting attention..
\of course back then we had a media that actually like to report about stuff like that..

Maybe it was because most reporters of that era were white men of the age who would enjoy looking at teenaged girls out there protesting:evilgrin:

"but but but honey, I was just doing my job..taking pictures of braless teenaged girls in hiphuggers and mocassins".. It's for WORK "

4. It is sad, I can see some reasoning behind permits but
$700 for a sound permit for the band? Come on, the rally is going to be held at noon for crying out loud. Apparently the city has been dicking us around too, sending wrong permit applications and calling our guy a 3rd grader and stuff...oh well, fuel for the fire that is my passion (and they say optimism is dead on the left :)).

WE SHALL OVERCOME!
