FREEPERS, READ THIS....Police Begin Seizing Guns of Civilians
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/09/national/nationalspecial/09storm.html

>snip
Mr. Compass, the police superintendent, said that after a week of near anarchy in the city, no civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns, or other firearms of any kind. "Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons," he said.

That order apparently does not apply to the hundreds of security guards whom businesses and some wealthy individuals have hired to protect their property. The guards, who are civilians working for private security firms like Blackwater, are openly carrying M-16s and other assault rifles.
>snip

YOUR govt. didn't protect them then, it won't protect them now and they won't be able to protect themselves; the second amendment is DEAD.

5. They're all over it
They were frothing over this last night. Several threatened to shoot anyone that tried (hypothetically of course, because none of them are in NO).

6. It's good that they're not saying that as long as the idea comes
from the police, it's ok.

to defend themselves in situations exactly like Katrina. At least, that's the argument I always hear. "Guns are necessary not only to defend ourselves against the enemy, but also against our government should it become the enemy." Well check it out. The government has become your enemy and is removing the weapons with which you might defend yourself. You elected a man you knew was a moron and now you reap your rewards. Enjoy.

edited to remove embarrassing spelling error

10. Yeah, New Orleans is a very "blue" town...
...but it could happen in their town too if the Fed declares a national emergency for any reason. Surely even freepers can figure that out...can't they?

11. Louisiana went red, didn't it?
If so, it wouldn't matter if NOLA voted blue.

His argument still carries weight. While I've always had problems with some Democrats who supported gun confiscation, these guys in charge of NOLA now actually carried out gun confiscation. They took the next step and showed how ugly martial law can be.

12. I was addressing the freepers to whom this thread is dedicated.
Sorry not to have spelled that out for you; didn't think it was necessary.
